I love my basic Kuerig. You only add water that you are going to brew immediately so it doesn't get nasty sitting there. No pots, it brews into your mug. And if you use the K-cups, you don't have fiddlers to wash. I like the set-up Mater's using, but it seems messy and more stuff to wash. I hate having to deal with a messy coffe maker.

Also, never refrigerate your coffe grounds and keep it as sealed as possible. (Another plus for K-cups). I don't drink alot of coffe so a pound can would last for weeks and weeks and get stale way before it's used up.

You'd be surprised by how less messy it is than the coffee pot. All I do to it is give it a quick rinse to get the coffee grounds out and then fill up with soapy water and let it soak for at least an hour before rinsing and wiping. I have the best dishsoap at home, too. It's Dawn PowerClean and it really releases caked on residue. I love it because it's easy to rinse off. After rinsing, I just wipe with a paper towel or put it in the drainboard. I also heat the water in the mug I use, so there's only two small things to clean.

You are right about not refrigerating. I've heard you can freeze coffee, but some brands say not to. I've had the bag of coffee I'm using now for about 3 months and I've kept it sealed tight in a Ziploc bag so it's double sealed. It tastes almost as fresh as the day I opened it. I remember how AWFUL the coffee tasted when I didn't seal it in a Ziploc bag. So nasty. :x

I think perked coffee tastes the best. I use an old stove top perk, though. None of this fancy-schmancy electric gadgetry.

Actually, peculators are the worst way to make coffee. You just kill all the qualities your beans might have when using this method. Coffee percolators flout natural laws of brewing coffee by repeated processing. They over extract oils and flavor of coffee grounds by reheating the brew with the grounds over and over again. Coffee made with percolators tends to be stronger and often bitter tasting than coffee made with other brewing methods.
