It looks like the Sioux City Carmel went back to the full Habit!! (note: not saying here that Carmels with a modified habit are bad) They have two new postulants too! :like: This is the whole community as it says they have 7 nuns here, http://www.religiousministries.com/  I have a friend whose sister entered this Carmel (like back in the 60's) and died young of cancer :saint:

Here's something from October, https://www.facebook.com/fatherz/posts/285004271611062  You don't need a FB account to view it. I don't think they have anything yet because their ad is still in the diocesan newsletter, asking for land. But I don't think they're going to give up soon!

Thanks for sharing that about Alessandra di Rudini. I had heard of her, but didn't know much. And I didn't realize that Three Veils for Sandra book was about her! I haven't read it, but I remember Sr. Mary Catharine once mentioning it here before. Thanks for sharing where you can get it super cheap!

There's another English book on her too, http://www.amazon.com/Alessandra-Rudini-Carmelite-Marie-Claude/dp/B000715I40  which is available from the Eugene, OR Carmel for $7.50 http://aquerofoundation.com/id19.html  :like:

an Italian video on her

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFeeVNSEOrY

In the book "Alessandra di Rudini Carlotti, Carmelite" written by Mother Marie-Claude of Montmartre Carmel and translated by Carmel of Maria Regina, Oregon, it mentioned a book called "Three White Gowns for Alessandra (Tri Abiti Bianchi per Alessandra).

Speaking of Reposoir Carmel, the Foundress of San Pablo Carmel in Laguna, Philippines is from France - Mother Mary Clare of the Blessed Sacrament (Marie Blance Germette).  Mother Mary of Jesus (Alessandra di Rudini) was the Prioress of Montmartre Carmel when Mother Clare knocked on its door.  By the time she entered, Mother Mary of Jesus took her flight to heaven.  Eight months after Mother Clare entered Montmartre Carmel, she joined the new foundation for Reposoir Carmel; she was a novice at that time.

When Mother Theresa of Jesus (Victoria Pagot; Foundress of several Carmels in the Philippines) asked for two French Nuns to help Philippine Carmels through Vicar-General of the Order, Mother Clare was a perfect candidate.  Father Marie Eugene, OCD have meet Mother Clare in a Federation Meeting in France.  She was 46 years old when she left Reposoir Carmel in 1955 and after six years, Mother Clare was elected Prioress.

Mother Mary Clare of the Blessed Sacrament joined the Carmelite foundation in heaven in 1989.

It was Mother Mary Clare who inquired with the Holy See regarding the status of Mother Mary Cecilia of Jesus and Mother Mary Anne of Jesus, Prioress and Subprioress of Lipa Carmel during the apparition.  Eventually, these two nuns were allowed to return to Lipa Carmel.

Baltimore Carmel and its contribution to the Philippine Carmel – Naga Carmel

Baltimore Carmel contributed two Nuns from Naga foundation: Sr. Aloysius of the Passion and Sr. John of Jesus and Mary.  They went to live in Manila Carmel and eventually went to Jaro Carmel but there stay did not last long - the two American Nuns had misunderstanding with the French Prioress, Mother Mary of Christ (companion of Mother Theresa of Jesus and foundress of several Carmels in the Philippines) who has a very dominant personality.  Mother Theresa of Jesus (Foundress of several Carmels in the Philippines) asked the two Nuns to go back to Manila and they stayed until the foundation of Naga Carmel started.  Mother Mary Magdalene, the Prioress of Baltimore Carmel wanted to join the two American Nuns in Naga but the Bishop did not allow her.

An excerpt of the letter to the Nuns from Fr. Thomas Kilduff, OCD:

"First of all, remember that the French have always been a little more rigid in their interpretation of the Constitutions than others.  Sometimes, however, I cannot help admiring their spirit of penance and wishing we had a little more of it... We Americans are not accustomed to doing things the hard way.  In fact, our monastic life here in this country is altogether too comfortable.  There is hardly a modern convenience that we lack.  For this reason we find it difficult in the Missions, whereas the European adapts himself more easily...  My point here is that perhaps judging the whole thing by the standards of the Philippines, the Nuns in Iloilo are not half as narrow as we think...  While I readily appreciate the difficulties and privations that are to be encountered in the Philippines, I do think it is providential that you have had a chance to see how others are living in the mission before thinking a foundation of our own.  Don't take too critical an attitude towards Mother Mary and the others.  They have an entirely different background.  They were the religious who were heroic enough to go out to the Philippines where our American Nuns turned down the invitation."

Note:  Jaro is in Iloilo province.

Wow, this is amazing, I visited with them for about a month inside the enclosure in 1995, the first Carmel I visited.  The prioress was a novice at the time and was my assigned "angel".  So many of them who were there when I was there have passed.  I only recognize 4 of them.  They had 2 wonderful German Shepherds and a nice property.  It was there that I learned how to use a hoe and ate seaweed for the first time, one of the sisters is Korean.

I am not at all attracted to their current lodgings either especially compared with Buffalo, but that wouldn't prevent me from going there.  His timing is perfect, and I was reflecting on that tonight after compline .

It didn't look like they had gotten land to build their new monastery as of February when Chiqui I think posted about it back then.  As far as the foundation goes, they must have a place to go but I didn't see any details.  :think2:

In one of their newsletters I received earlier this year It said that the Bishop in Bismarck, ND visited their community and requested that they make a foundation in the Bismarck Diocese. They have since received permission from the Holy See to begin the new monastery.  The sent five of their solemnly professed Sisters to start the new foundation (last November.) They are hoping that they could have the new foundation finished during this Year of Faith. Hopefully we'll get more details soon since its already been about 7 months since this started. :)

I believe also that they are searching for land in the Alexandria area to build a permanent monastery. They have had offers but nothing is set yet.

They also said that each time they have to fit another postulant in the choir it seems almost miraculous that they succeed. The "Saints" in the choir (statues of Our Blessed Mother, St. Joseph, St. Teresa, and St. John of The Cross) have been notified that if they don't provide a remedy for the shortage of room, they will have to forfeit their places to accommodate the new arrivals. That ought to get them working. :hehe:

Ok, so they've already made the new foundation.  Wow, are they building a monastery in ND?  That is so funny about displacing the statues in choir.  :smile2:  The saints  take Carmelite nuns pretty seriously.  How do you get their newsletter?

The other thing I should have mentioned is that these sisters from the short time in which I spent with them they seemed to me to be very faithful to the Church.  They were also very kind and joyful.  I'm not just saying these things to be nice either.

How I came about it is because I was once in contact with them for discernment. However, it was made clear to me that it isn't the place for me. They are a wonderful community. :) I would think they would send the newsletter out to community friends (benefactors also) and families. I don't know if you contact them if they would send it out to you? If you do discern with them then you may start to get them. I am in contact with another community right now; please keep me in prayer.

Praised be Jesus Christ! I think it's that they hope to establish the Bismarck foundation in the Year of Faith, but haven't done so yet. I don't think the five Solemn Professed have gone yet, but I could be wrong.

Okay, just went back to your email on this where you kindly (thank you!!) typed out that part of the newsletter for me :like:

"On Feb. 8th, Bishop David D. Kagan of Bismarck, ND, accompanied by Fr. Thomas Richter, visited our community and requested that we make a Foundation in the Bismarck Diocese. In the ensuing months, the necessary paperwork was sent to the Holy See, requesting permission to start a new monastery. By the end of the summer, the permission was granted for us to send five of our solemnly professed Sisters to start a new Foundation in the Bismarck Diocese. At present (mid-November), the appropriate land and buildings to start are being sought, and we hope that this Foundation will become a reality during this Year of Faith."

My guess is that the foundation hasn't been made yet, but I could be wrong, and they are just being super hidden about it, as Carmelites like to be :smile3: I bet we'll hear something soon though.

I found this on the St. Louis Carmel website.  Excellent homily on the meaning of the veil.  I'm turning into Chiqui!

Turning into Chiqui is a good thing!  Hahaha!

I love the video and I can see a lot of older Nuns.  I hope they get many good vocations so the community will survive.

How many members does St. Louis Carmel have?  An American Prioress told me that they have adoration (not sure if its day or night or 24 hours) which is not customary for a Carmel.
