saintwannab7
In my history class today, my teacher said something directly to me asking whether or not I believed that thousands of years of Church teaching have taught that men were superior to women. I said no, that Christ could have been a woman had He been the daughter and not the Son. He could have died for our salvation as a woman if He so chose to do so. But He didn't, and that is not because God thinks men are superior. I just don't have a good answer as to why He is the Son besides that that is just how the Trinity is: Father, Son, and the love between them- The Holy Spirit. So I started saying that women are held to a higher standard sometimes (i.e. it is more scandalous when a women is immodest than a man) because they are in some ways more highly regarded. But this is a really really touchy subject and so I did not say all that I could have and was not completely confident when I spoke because NO ONE besides me felt this way as far as I could tell. Thus my arguement sounded rather weak. But I really want to have a good answer the next time I talk about it with anyone. I know with my mom it is coming. She thinks St. Paul is a women-hater (a masoginist is what those guys are called, I think. but I have no clue how to spell it) and she is going to look up quotes to prove her point. Any good rebuttals you all have used or can think of? I want to be ready and have an answer that would suffice for friends and family who do not respect the Authority of the Catholic Church. BLAZEr
Ask your teacher how a religion that hates women and believes that they are inferior could possibly have exalted one particular woman above all other men and women? The Blessed Virgin Mary is the best example of how the Feminine is deeply revered and esteemed by the Church. Mary is not just cool because she is the Mother of Christ, she is the Mother of Christ becasue her will was conformed perfectly to God's and was able to say yes to his Holy Spirit in order to become the Mother of Jesus. Mary is the model of all Christians, not just women, but men too aspire to be like Mary. This hardly sounds to me like women are 2nd class?
