Lisa
We have more than 20 seminarians in a diocese with about 60 parishes. That's a wonderful sign, I think!
TheresaThoma
I'm in the Denver archdiocese and we are really seeing the fruits of all of this. Just this week my parish got assigned a THIRD priest and we got the news that the seminarian that was with us last year is going to be ordained to the priesthood this Sat! It is all really really exciting! (BTW random fact Bishop Conley is a convert to the faith )
MissScripture
I *think* there are six priests being ordained in our diocese this summer!
Ed Normile
This is a natural pattern in the Church, following scandals and schisms vocations always rise. That is when the best come forward, as they see a need and hear the call and answer. ed
the171
All the great guys go to seminary is now the ongoing joke in my diocese. Just look at our seminarians on the poster... And then we have a discernment house! And many young men waitif to finish high school. Lots of girls discerning religious life especially in the next two dioceses, Lafayette and BR. DOLC is doing well though! http://live.lcdiocese.org/

cmotherofpirl
OK, did you know we have 45 people at phatmass discerning religious life? Are they on your daily prayer lists? Maybe we should find a way to do more for them as a group...

BG45
I know that our diocese I'm in now doesn't have many seminarians, however, the Franciscans that operate here have no trouble finding plenty of young men who want to serve their fellow people and the Church. arfink
Seminarians need three things: Encouragement, prayers, and money. Lots and lots of money. A hundred thousand here or there can't hurt.
This. --/\ In my archdiocese we have reached our maximum of about 250 seminarians every year, and the past two years have seen the seminaries turning men away. And it's not like they're just saying we can only handle 250, they got them stacked up like cordwood in those tiny dorm rooms to make them all fit. Pastors and bishops here have always been very good about encouraging people to pray for vocations and whatnot. Now they need to encourage people to PAY for them too. I am hoping to get an appointment with my pastor soon. He said that he had some information for me about the Sisters I am discerning with. He knows them very well and he discussed with the Superior about me getting a psychological evaluation here so I wouldn't have to travel to have it done. I am excited, but I also am learning to trust that all things happen in God's time. God is doing all of this, not me. My pastor and the Sisters have worked most of the details out.
