you're laying the groundwork for a fat joke at my expense, aren't you?

 Well, since you brought it up, I'd like to point out that I can make a couple outfits with 9 yards... :hehe2:

MS: My mom's going to be helping me, but the patterns are pretty simple (elastic waistband skirt, no lining in the vest), so I think it won't be too bad.

Right.

Dominican quote:

At the end of his life, St. Thomas Aquinas was asked what reward he desired. He simply answered, "none but you." Wow.

There's a preaching friars reflection on that. http://www.preachingfriars.org

i'm surprised he didn't ask for a Big Mac.. (sorry, i couldn't resist a St. Thomas fat joke...)

I have them! I went for "comfort and durability, not style." :dance5:

My mom and a friend of hers helped sew my sister's. My sister CAN sew, but she hates it. But she was shocked, when they had to sew their habits, to find out that many of the Sisters in her class had never touched a sewing machine before. I guess a few of them had hired people to sew their aprons for them, because they didn't know people who could sew.

The first year novices told me that some of the class had never sewn before. It's a foreign concept to me, because where I'm from, almost every girl at least tries it, and even if they don't keep up with it, mom and grandmas still sew. Most take sewing in 4-H for at least a year or two and our school still taught it in family/consumer science classes.

How is your sister doing? Excited about first vows?

Yes! They try not to focus on the DAY too much, rather the long term implications of the day, but I know she's super excited to see us, so she's already excited for the day! :hehe: But she has been enjoying their vows classes and learning about their vocation and all that. It's fun to compare and contrast our vocations as we both grow in them. :)
