cmotherofpirl
Ok, I was being facetious about the exorcism part, I just think the Jesus Christ in the Eucharist is appropriate in the face of such blatant and monsterous evil.
cmaD2006
I'm not opposed to having Mass said outside of Church ... I know that in a particular diocese, Mass is actually said at a restaurant for the restaurant workers. A large number of the workers are undocumented, and work extremely long hours that prevent them from getting to Mass. The compromise -- a very early Mass said before the workday started. The owner was ameanable to that -- and voila ... a whole bunch of the faithful who would not have been able to get to Mass otherwise were able to fulfill their Sunday obligation. (Yes I do realize that if you can't, you can't and hence you are released from the Sunday obligation -- but I think it is so neat that this was done). Lisa
The article says the Mass took place in a private lot (owned by a pro-life family) across the street.
Brother Adam
I know of a bishop who made a charter bus pull over to the side of the road on their way to the March for Life and offered daily Mass right there on the bus, since there would not be another opportunity. Papist
I know of a bishop who made a charter bus pull over to the side of the road on their way to the March for Life and offered daily Mass right there on the bus, since there would not be another opportunity.
Are not these examples of extraordinary circumstances that a Mass is offered to people where they have no access to a Mass? This Mass at the abortion clinic is not bringing the Mass to those who are unable to attend, but for a different purpose, yes? I am not saying the Mass at the abortion clinic does not have cause, but is it proper. That said, my trust in the Church trumps my uneasiness. If this Mass has the Ordinary's approval, which I have no reason to doubt, then I can't judge.
MissyP89
This makes me uneasy, but that doesn't mean there is a problem.
Me, too. Respect for the Mass is a definite concern, but I truly believe that we have a duty to bring Him to the streets, not only in word but in Sacrament. Proper precautions would be taken. Yes, desecration is important to consider, but as someone else mentioned, look at how He suffered for us. Look at the risks the apostles took. That's not to say that desecration is OK – it is not. I'm only suggesting that sometimes, we have to go down into the trenches to find souls. Slappo
slappo - not correct. the Holy Mass brings Jesus to us fully present body blood soul and divinity. not even close to an exorcism
Umm... that was the entire point of my post? Exorcisms and mass aren't even close to the same so they cannot be compared in terms of "betterness" An exorcism does something vastly different than what the Divine Liturgy does. It has a different purpose and a different result. After all, if mass is just all around better than exorcism, why are there several exorcisms in the extraoridnary form of a baptism and that the baptism is typically done outside of the context of mass? Why not just have baptism during mass and skip the exorcisms since mass is so much better? To keep on topic: I don't know ifan exorcism would be appropriate in this circumstance either, but moreso because I don't have a clue as to when they are and are not appropriate! I would find an exorcism to be more appropriate than mass though. I'd have a hard time doubting that there is a demonic presense at an abortion clinic. PadrePioOfPietrelcino
My concern is that the Priest (and people) were more caught up in how wonderful it was and how good they were, rather than being humbled by the sacrifice of Mass and God's love.
I for one highly doubt that those participating in this mass were caught up in themselves. I know if I had the opportunity I would participate in something like this, because of the holiness of the mass, not because I want to feel good about myself. I think there is much good that can come from these types of masses, and I'm fairly confident that with 6 different Priests saying a mass, AND Bishop James Conley led the rosary after a spanish mass tells me that this was approved and beneficial action.
