Question For Jlol And Metalheads

To be honest, I never could get into the old stuff. I liked some 80s metal, but most of what I listened to was from afterwards.

same here. After listening to later metal, the earlier stuff just doesnt quite do it for me. Modern guitarists like Joe Haley from Psycroptic, John Petrucci of Dream Theater, Tosin Abasi of Animals as Leaders, just blow my mind, are at a level of skill only dreamed of a few decades back

give any of these guys a try Ardill?

I've been listening to Dark Tranquility's Fiction. I would rate it as fairly solid. I guess Anders was the front man for DT for some period, then dumped them for In Flames. The more you know...also been listening to As I Lay Dying's last three. Pretty good. I liked the gang vocals on Awakened.

I also went out and grabbed an Opeth album. I'll get back to you on it.  :)

Wondering if you've listed to Parkway Drive at all?

More DT: We are the Void, Construct, Character. We are the Void is by far their best so far.

Been listening to ATR. They are hit or miss, I dunno.

John Petrucci is most definitely amazing. Saw Dream Theater live:  Mind. Blown. They're one of those bands, though, where I wish I could shut off the vocals and just enjoy the music.

Here's the easiest way to tell a poser Metallica fan. What's the best Metallica album?

You aren't going to say Kill 'Em All, are you? :x  Hetfield's vocals were too Ozzy-esque. I feel like Metallica didn't have entirely their own style til Ride The Lightning. I definitely prefer the albums from '84 - '97, where he was less whiny. After that, they're pretty much a joke except for a song or two. My first listen (when I was in 5th grade) was Reload and I was hooked. Didn't get into much of the older stuff until high school.

You'll probably say they're too "pop," but even through all their vocalist changes I've always loved Killswitch Engage. I can hear some similarities between them and In Flames, even.

I have a serious man crush on Anders Frieden.

Don't judge.

haha, not exactly. Anything after Justice for All is trash, so there are four correct answers.

I do like a couple KE albums, Disarm the Descent and As Daylight Dies. I didn't particularly like The End of Heartache. Still working through the rest of their work.

So you like the really new stuff. I haven't listened to the whole album, but what I have heard is alright. I miss Howard, though.

I liked their cover of Holy Diver better than the original. :paperbag:
