have you seen any of those 3D printers? I wouldn't mind acquiring one.

I'm gonna have to say I'll wait on that one. The hot-extrusion models don't make good quality finished parts, and the stereo lithography machines use resins that cost hundreds of dollar per liter. It may seem counter-intuitive, but using a CNC machine to make a accurate mold and then mixing cheap, regular industrial plastic polymers to fill it would actually be cheaper overall if you had to make more than one of a particular object. In fact, even making a one-off with that method is cheaper than some of the higher-res stereo lithography machines.

i believe some of my engineering buddies are venturing into constructing these machines (the good quality type) and selling for much cheaper than current market price... let me know if anybody is interested in their contact info :P

Question for the theologically inclined: would a scapular made with this thing be legit (aka not cloth?). Cause that would be so razzle dazzle.

I have no idea. Perchance a sweet neck pendant would suffice?

I wouldn't make any widgets with it... just mass produce phatmass action figures and sell them in bubble gum vending machines. All proceeds go to dUSt so I don't get sued. Any resemblance to actual persons living would be coincidental.

That could be interesting, assuming he's looking to hire a graphic designer. :)

OK, I just wanted to test the waters with this before dropping an even bigger bomb here: I'd like to get my cutter before summer time, perhaps with a small Kickstarter fund drive. Does this sound especially nutso? If I made 10 or 12 designs for various objects in advance for people to chose from as pledge gifts would you consider contributing?

What kind of money are you looking at for a 'share'? $10? $100? $1000? 'twould make a difference....

All of the above? Have a look at an example Kickstarter project: (from someone in my home town, no less)

OK folks, so I'm planning on putting together 10 or 12 designs in advance. Any and all suggestions are certainly welcome at this point! I only have maybe 2 or 3 designs that I know I want to do, and the other spots are all open yet.
