Confirmation - Freaking Out

I am being Confirmed one week from today. I am a nervous wreck. Here is my list of worries:

I am nervous...
That I will kneel down too hard on the kneeler and push it over onto the bishop.
That I will trip and fall on top of the bishop.
About the fact that this is probably my last sacrament until right before I die.
There will be SO many people there.
How will I wear my veil?

I am TERRIFIED!

It's not your last Sacrament! Unless you die right after being Confirmed you've got a long life of Reconciliation and the Eucharist awaiting you. :hehe:

I'm very jealous that you have a veil, I wish I had a veil!

NAMallard, We can send you a veil if you are feeling really deprived.... :paperbag:

Claire, just breathe when you start to feel like this.

Focus on how happy you are to welcome the Holy Spirit... and let God do the rest.

Holding you in prayer -- your confirmation is next Sunday? We'll all remember you at Mass.

Remember, I used up ALL the falling and banging into things at confirmation ... so you can't fall, and you can't knock over the kneeler. I've used that all up. ;)

After dealing with the complete klutz that I am, the angels had a meeting... and now they hold the kneelers and escort every confirmandi up the aisle so that nothing can happen.

So you walk right up that aisle, and you'll be beautiful; I only wish we had a mantilla emo. :congrats:

Just before my marriage prep weekend, I told a friend I hoped it was good, because my previous sacramental prep had been lame, and the last sacrament after this that I could get the firs time was anointing of the sick and I didn't want that for a loooong time. About 6 months after our wedding, I had that before I had my heart operation. So be careful about what you say about anointing of the sick. :P

I was an altar server at my brother's confirmation mass (yes, I was a server. IAABC) and I almost dropped the book while I was holding it for the Bishop to read out of, because I was so nervous about falling backwards down the steps while I was holding it. :hehe:

Take a breath! It's just a sacrament - they're not supposed to make you hyperventilate, they're supposed to sanctify you!

I've never understood the 'I'm so nervous' approach to big events. For instance, I've known people who practically passed out at their own weddings - is that the way to remember your wedding?! My feeling has always been, "This is what I came here to do - I know what I'm about in this situation - let's embrace it - let's just do it."

And in all honesty - I'm really not trying to be harsh or judgmental here - are you nervous because of the "performance" aspects of confirmation? TV, movies, celebrity magazines - the whole media machine tries to convince us that everything is a performance.

With sacraments, you do have to be there, and you do have to move & stuff, but don't think of them as performances. Just go where you're supposed to go, when you're supposed to go there, say your part of the ritual dialogue, and go back to your pew.

You'll be fine.

Don't worry, be happy! (Lame advice I know, but it's true.)

To clarify, think about a distinction between performance and participation. Your goal is to participate in the sacrament, not to put on a performance... although, as you are clearly aware, the confirmandi do have to perform certain actions.
