missionseeker
My fire alarm started beeping, so I took it off the ceiling and took the battery out. But IT'S STILL BEEPING. So I stuffed it under the sofa cushion. Is it possessed!?
MissScripture
Um...I don't know. Ours randomly went off once, and Roamin discovered that happens when they get too old, but it turned off when he took out the battery. Are you sure there isn't a second back up battery or something? (I don't think it's likely, but I don't know of a better explanation,)
missionseeker
I think it beeps if it doesn't have a battery at all which is stupid. But it's not connected to the wall, so I have NO idea where the backup power supply is. I would seriously consider breaking into Publix at 4 am to make it stop. lol. but the the couch is helping. ha
MissScripture
Oh, yeah, ours did that in our old apt when the battery was dead. But it wasn't a constant thing. Is this still beeping like it does when it goes off or just intermittently?

missionseeker
In my old apartment, I couldn't reach them to change them and my old housemate was too stupid or lazy to do it so we had it like that for about 6 weeks before my neighbor got tired of it and came over and changed it. AnneLine
Lordy that is a pain. I had that happen once when I had had some foot surgery and couldn't reach the blessed thing to turn it off. It is maddening! I'd put some pillows around it and give it a kiss good night. One othr thought... see if you can find the manual and/or a phone number for the company who made it on the internet... and give them a call. Alternitively, put it out in the street so it will be run over and solve it's problems... and get a new one....
Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
my old fire alarm is attached to the power supply and i bashed it to make it stop because i don't know how to turn it off and it is going to cost me when government housing finds out i bashed it. Still i can appeal no one showed me how to work it,or possibly they did and i forget i voted 1 star for this thread LOL
missionseeker
yeah, mine is university owned housing, so I can't bash it, though I think I would be totally justified if I did. lol.
AnneLine
I bet it has some kind of 'reserve tank' that is designed to power it until a new battery is put in. Have you tried that? Can you call the University Public Safety office or something ... not an emergency number, but a routine number? ... somebody must be responsible for your poor crying orphan.... MissScripture
The summer I was down there living in the condo, some idiot kids pulled the alarm for the building at 3 am. Those alarms are all wired through the building, no way to turn them off individually. So, I was on the phone with the head of the condo association, while holding a pillow over the alarm in the room of the lady I was taking care of. And she kept asking me, "What is that awful noise!" And then she wanted to know if the firemen were going to carry her down, again. I guess they'd had a fire alarm previously go off and the fire dept came and since they were on the 3rd floor and she couldn't walk downstairs and they couldn't use the elevators, the firemen had to carry her down in her wheelchair. She was very fond of those firemen.

The only reason I say this is that I watched a Friends episode one time and Phoebe had the exact same thing happen to her! AnneLine
That is one of the FUNNIEST things I have ever seen! You made my night, Mater -- and hopefully have saved Missionseeker's sanity! Let us know if you get it to go to sleep!
