I'm in the same "i'm going to start running" boat as you. I've found/heard that Couch to 5k ( http://www.coolrunni...2/2_3/181.shtml ) is a great plan meant to ease you into running.

Again, I'll restate my position on running. Its of the devil. I haven't had enough time yet, but I'm sure its condemned (along with evils like mathematics see St. Augustine: The good Christian should beware the mathematician and all those who make empty prophecies. The danger already exists that the mathematicians have made a covenant with the devil to darken the spirit and to confine man in the bonds of hell.) by the Church Fathers. Stop being heretics y'all.

Uh oh, I guess I better burn my degree in mathematics, and maybe I'll get a priest to exorcise me (pun intended) :hehe:

I've been trying to find a quote i had seen about Greek gymnasiums, but I can't find it, and even if I did find it, i think I'd have to twist it a little to be against running.

Tab'le De'Bah-Rye

start using complex aminos(you could add a protein shake per day also) minimum 2 tabs just before breakfast and 2 before lunch and if you can only do 10 pushups in 3 days after starting the aminoes you should be able to do upto 33 possibly more. I have done this experiment and it worked with no training which obviously is more advisable with atraining routine when your life could be at possible risk :)

If you're looking for a little extra protein, change your diet. If you're looking for a lot of protein, change your diet and if you still need more, add protein shakes. They're a great boost for you when you're trying to build (or maintain) muscle. I'm always hesitant to recommend them because they're often seen as a quick fix and an excuse to neglect your diet, but I do know plenty of people that use protein shakes to their full potential.

Also, for the people that are queasy about this (because I know I was for a good long while) : protein shakes are not the same as testosterone based steroids. Testosterone is a hormone that tells your body to build muscle. It is naturally produced in both men and women. By adding testosterone from an external source, women: throws off their already delicate and wild hormone balance, men: body stops naturally producing it meaning testicles shrink & reproductive health is affected.

Muscles are made up of proteins which are long strings of various amino acids. Usually we get these proteins/amino acids from foods, especially meats (which are simply the muscles of animals), but we can also get it in a more direct way from thinks like protein tabs or shakes. Think of it like the difference between getting vitamin B in little tiny doses from all sorts of various foods during the day and getting a concentrated dose of vitamin B from a fish oil pill. Having more protein in your system won't necessarily mean you build more muscle, but that your body has a ready supply of the components necessary to build more muscle.

Your body will only benefit from the additional protein if you are exercising enough that your body will actually use up the additional protein (either in building up new muscle or maintaining old muscle).
