We are told that Mary is the Mother of the Lord by Elizabeth.

[*][43] And why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
Well it seems to me that Jesus is supporting the fact that you can put God in for Lord in the following passage.

Matt 22
41] Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question,
[42] saying, "What do you think of the Christ? Whose son is he?" They said to him, "The son of David."
[43] He said to them, "How is it then that David, inspired by the Spirit, calls him Lord, saying,
[44] `The Lord said to my Lord,
Sit at my right hand,
till I put thy enemies under thy feet'?
[45] If David thus calls him Lord, how is he his son?"
[46] And no one was able to answer him a word, nor from that day did any one dare to ask him any more questions.

Seems protestants are stumped by the question too.

No thoughts on this? I've never seen it discussed. It seems Jesus is not denying the fact that David is his father, even though Jesus is also clearly addressing the fact that he is God.

What's to be stumped about? It's in accordance with the scriptures that Jesus was to be of the Tree of Jesse (Isaiah 11:1). Not sure from whence the confusion is arising.

Where am I saying I am confused? The root of the question is protestants saying "Mary can't be the Mother of God" as if she would have had to prexist him for this to be true.

This is debate, not Catholic questions. I am making a point. The point in debate is to discuss it. Pro or con.

What do you want me to do, write a book in every post so that your small mind can comprehend the point.

I don't think I've encountered a Protestant who has actually thought of any of the implications of the bit about David. And many I suspect would use the same arguments as against Mary, namely that David would be the father of e human side, but not of God, etc.

So pro Catholic position or con?
I'm afraid you probably won't find a huge debate around here...

Concerned as I am about getting my head bit off by your cranky attitude, whoever is asking the question is clueless. Mary is the physical Mother of God: "And Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ." Matthew 1:16

by the Holy Spirit: "But while he thought on these things, behold the angel of the Lord appeared to him in his sleep, saying: Joseph, son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife, for that which is conceived in her, is of the Holy Ghost."
- Matthew 1:20

Mary is also a descendant of David, so therefore Jesus is as well. "Son of" to the Jews means physical son, but also means descendant of as well. So when Jesus is referred to as son of DAVID, it simply means he is a descendant of David thru his mother, and his father
:"To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary."
- Luke 1,27

and again "I Jesus have sent my angel, to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the root and stock of David, the bright and morning star."
- Apocalypse 22,16
