cmaD2006
'Ay paisano! There's a lot more to Italian cuisine than pasta! - Olives & olive oils - Breads - Salamis and hams (including wild boar, in Tuscany) - Cheeses - Balsamic vinegar - Wines (Brunella, Chianti, Frascati, Montepulciano, Nero d'Avila, Orvieto, Vin Santo) - Liquors - Liqueurs (Amaretto, Fra Angelico, Limoncello) - Fruit (blood oranges! - there'd better be blood oranges in heaven, or I'm not going!) - Vegetables 'til you can count 'em all, and varieties you'll never see in the States - Biscotti, cassata I gotta go - I'm hungry... Basilisa Marie
I mailed my state income taxes today because I forgot to do them with my federal ones. Oops. Too many years living in a state without income taxes...But now I make up for it by paying state and city income taxes. I went to the post office any everything! Like an adult! And then I rewarded myself with Ben and Jerry's. Because I'm an adult! ETA: Yeah, parents can claim kids that don't live at home and are going to school until the kids are 24. So even though I can have a job and my own student loans and live in a different state, my permanent address is still my parents' house and I'm still on their health insurance and car insurance. So they claim me as a dependent until 2013. But the plan is that by that time I'll have a job so I can pay ALL my bills ALL by myself! Like an adult! Basilisa Marie
Oh, taxation... I need to stop myself before I start writing the Conservative Manifesto...
Dude, taxation is wonderful. A stinky wonderful. I like having roads and police and firemen and public schools (well, the ones I went to) and water that I can pay to come out of my faucet and electricity that I can pay to have turned on, and my garbage taken away and medicine for old people and...and... It's way easier than the alternative. A while ago my neighborhood's homeowner's association unanimously voted to get our private road paved (we live in the woods, and everyone taking shifts on filling up the HUGE potholes every year from the rain was getting old), and getting everyone to cough up for their share was a nightmare. Cue the same process when we got Comcast to run a hookup line down so we could FINALLY get rid of our dial-up internet. So long story short I don't mind paying a bit to have the government make sure my highways are good. Tax all the rich people though. Tax them lots. Vincent Vega
The Renaissance is the absolute pinnacle of historicism. Also, it marks the beginning of the descent into the secularism in which we find ourselves today. So you're right, your people have indeed contributed to society. I should have been more explicit, and said that your people have never positively contributed to society. I figured it was implied, but I forgot I was talking to talians.
