Divine Mercy Sunday Delema

So, I have been supper excited about divine mercy Sunday for several months now. I was only excited to be let down today by my mom. I can't go! I feel upset right now because I have been counting on it for so long. My dad is working so he can't go and my mom decided to visit family! I told here that I wanted to go and she said that her plans were more important! I feel really sad! I can't say anything to her beside that I want to go because I don't want to break the 4th commandment. What do I do if anything? This was just such a disappointment to me!

Or see if someone you know at church can give you a ride? What about public transportation or walking if it is within a couple miles?

If you can't be there, you can offer up your desire to be there as a consolation to Jesus for all those who take Him for granted...

You can still get the indulgence and all the graces from Divine Mercy Sunday if you pray for the Pope, go to Mass and confession when you can, and offer a devout prayer to Jesus' merciful heart (like "Jesus, I trust in You.") :)

God knows you can't be there, but you would be if you had the chance. Don't worry.

Okay... so I feel really dumb right now...I can get to mass but I thought there was a reconciliation service on Divine Mercy Sunday. Well there isn't. I was thinking there was . I do have a question though, how do I prepare for Divine Mercy Sunday? Is confession obligatory? I probably won't be able get to go to confession (because I can't drive). I guess from my mistake earlier, you can tell I am unclear about this. Again, Sorry for the mistake :sorry: I guess I meant I won't be able to get to confession. ( I feel so embarrassed right now...)

Thanks for your post but I was just chuckling to myself because I am in the middle of nowhere and there isn't any public transportation and my church is a good half hour away and I really don't know anyone from my church personally (only faces, bad with names lol!) I hope my previous post cleared things up though!

Groo the Wanderer

get there early. knock on the rectory door or approach Father 20 mins or so before Mass. Ask if you can do a quick confession. Most priests will gladly do so.

Call the parish, the secretary or the priest may know someone who's willing to help...even if it means going out of their way. I know if my priest asked me I would. If there's a teen ministry they may also be able to help.

Also. If you are in the boonies and it's your closest church then persue the above. If you could go to another church but just don't want to then go anyway. Mass is Mass even if the priest is screwy.

Hopefully! If he screws with the wrong stuff making mass invalid though....

This may help from the EWTN site:
"Many take this to mean that they must go to Confession ON Mercy Sunday. This is not true. To receive the benefits of the Promise one must be in the state of grace. The Lord does not promise the absolution of grave sin on Mercy Sunday, but points us to the Sacrament of Penance. To receive the grace we should be disposed. This is done by a confession near the time of Mercy Sunday. According to the Cardinal of Krakow, the confession which a Catholic makes during Lent in preparation for Easter is sufficient. Priests do not have to provide confession on Mercy Sunday so that Catholics can satisfy this condition. Since it is a Sunday the condition of Communion can be easily satisfied (including at the Saturday Vigil Mass). Our Communion, as our Confession, should be especially devout."
