AnneLine
My husband will buy ANYTHING that comes with a coupon. Love him, but we get some odd things sometimes. My rule (after 19 years of marriage, we worked this out.... after a few tense moments.... ) Is that whatever the hunter brings home, I will cook... but he better be there to eat it! Works for us! (And yes, we had a GREAT thanksgiving dinner (it's been cold & rainy here, so it wasn't TOO oddd.... and we celebrated my new status, too!) Toasted y'all! (He's a little baffled, but is happy for me....) Edited April 12, 2012 by AnneLine
IcePrincessKRS
Oh, gosh, I am really glad that my husband leaves the bulk of the food shopping to me. lol I'm terrible at couponing, but I rarely end up with weird stuff.

We try not to throw out food, but I'm very small (4'11" and around 100 lbs) and a lot of the time I just can't finish food when we go out. Early in our relationship I tried to keep pace with him as far as how much I ate ... that was a mistake. It took a few months before his mother told me I should generally aim for half of what he puts away. So now he's my human garbage disposal. You should see that kid clean up. And he's still a bit of a beanpole. I have no idea where he puts it all.

We'll sit down to dinner and I'll dish up the kids' plates. By the time I've finished serving myself his plate is clean and he's getting seconds already. Sometimes when we're out he'll eat food that I'm still working on. A dirty look and "I was still eating that." gets me a sheepish smile and another stolen bite. lol
AnneLine
My guy and I could easily polish off whatever is around and still go hunting the next meal. I'm a pretty good cook... and we are pretty good eaters. With predictable results..... So.... now we focus on reasonable amounts of food (reasoned, not what is desired, operative word here....) supplemented with veges & fruit. Not as desirable, but results are more desireable. Only thing that breaks his heart is that he's discovered a fresh bread outlet that has a buy one get one free deal 365 days of the year -- for bread that is iliterally just out of the oven. Cheap and good... and fattening. Must be evil. Not even taxable! Just EVIL. Now we only go near it on special feasts.... and then we bliss out..... Wish I could have you all over! Oh... and I've had to learn NOT to cook anough for a second meal... it won't matter, anyway... even if it is cooked, it won't be making it to the table anyway... it won't be around.... Gotta go fix him lunch to take with him -- he goes in at 3pm and gets home 5am tomorrow... so he gets LOTS of lunch -- enough for 2 meals.... AnneLine
As far as the 'not tossing things out' -- God bless FLYlady (www.flylady.net) - I do try to toss 'science experiments' each week. We try not to waste food, but some of it is just TOO odd... even if it came via coupon. (And sometimes he brings something that 'looks' like a deal because it is outdated... or just horrible. that really fries me when the stores do that!!! Mini rant over!) But he is INCREDIBLY good with coupons. Remind me sometime to tell you about the coupon honeymoon (and no, I'm not kidding....)
IcePrincessKRS
I grew up in a family of 14 (parents included) so making smaller quantities when we first got married was so difficult we ate out or had sandwiches most of the time. Or had friends over. Now that we have kids it's a lot easier because I'm cooking what feels more normal (still not as much as you'd feed the army I grew up in, but enough for leftovers for lunch the next day). It's funny the way these things evolve over time and how much you have to change and adapt.
