article is a tad long winded, but I liked the overall message. despite title, it is not just about christians, or gays, or whether being gay is a sin or not, etc. Post is about how we as people, as christians, etc treat each other.

Anyways, thoughts?

Excellent article.
I do not have to approve of someone's behavior, but I am commanded to love them. I will only receive from God what I have freely extended to others.

That is a very good article and worth reading and reflecting on. I hope many will reflect... :like2:

Today is Easter and last night I blessed the fire and brought the light of Christ into the church and as I looked back into the body of the Church, you look at the Body of the Church, the Body of Christ, and you realize: Yes! Alone, the light of Christ can be fragile, small, vulnerable, but it is never really alone, it is never really isolated, and you realize that the light of Christ is to be shared, and in sharing it is strong, when shared it is powerful, when shared it lights the whole world and it overcomes the darkness.

But there is more; in the light of the Easter Flame, in the light of the Easter Fire, the true "Light of Christ" can be seen. In the flame of the Easter light, the true face of Christ can be glimpsed, not in symbol; not in sign; but in the faces of those who have received that light, in the faces and hearts of those who have taken this flame into their hearts.

Just thoughts from my homily from the vigil....actually, for me, relevant to the article...

One of the best PM topics, ever. Thanks, Jesus_lol. I agree, it is about how we as people, (Christian, Jew, Hindu, Buddhist, Atheist) love each other. Almost all religions and most philosophies, like almost all people, just want to get along and make our world a good place for us, for our families and friends, and for our kids.

That was me on my way to mass this morning. Well, that's me anytime I'm running late - even thought it's my fault I'm running late. Though it was that chick's fault for cutting me off then stopping in the middle of the street to chat with her friends...

I read thsi on facebook a few days ago. I liked the overall message, but I thought there were some serious flaws to some of the things he said. An example of this is when he said that sin is a very personal thing and that it doesn't matter if it's a sin or not. Well sin is not a personal thing, and it does matter if something is a sin or not (for it not to matter would be moral relativism).

Overall though I really liked the post.

i think he meant it did not matter as to how we, as other people, are to treat each other, sin or no sin.

I think he was saying that some sins are between you and God, and those sins aren't as hurtful as sins against one another. If God has condemended homosexuality as a sin, then let God judge and condemn. It doesn't mean we should hate the gay, cut him off from his family, ostracise him from society, make his life a living hell.

What about this is entirely new? Am I missing something?

It's a nice message for the most part. We should all treat each other better. I sense some underlying problems, like Slappo has pointed out tho, but I won't rain on this parade too much.

To me there's no real problem with disagreeing with someone, even if the disagreement is severe, and befriending them and loving them. It's kinda just one of those things. Love ur enemiez and all.

Nothing is new. Then again, nothing the Catholic Church ever says can be called "new" but they still say it, because people still need to hear it.

Because it is still True.

I would say that is implied, though as a non catholic i felt i would leave that up to the reader.

No sin is between you and God alone, and all sins are hurtful to the Church as a whole. So like I said, while I agree with the overall message, there were some serious flaws in some of what he had to say. It is true that no sin should change the love and compassion we have for our neighbor, but that definitely does not mean that sin is not hurtful to us and our community.

EXACTLY!

Actually, sin does often change the love and compassion for our neighbor. For instance if the guy who shot up the college was your neighbor you'd probably not have all that much compassion or love but natural fear.

Much of sin causes public pain. Weither its stealing or lying or just being mean. We should never use this as an excuse to harm another, but we must be aware of it.

I really dislike the FB....that guy you just fingered for cutting you off is working two jobs, etc, etc, pity party. It's true that selfishishness on another's part is no excuse for bad behavior. But I'd honk and growl becuase the guy who cut me off was being careless. If I wasn't a really good driver we (and others) could both be dead. Some negative reactions are important.

There's an older mentally challenged man who comes into my store every day...actually a couple of them as there's a nursing home nearby. They both get a bit of cash stipend which they use to buy snacks. Both are on freebee restriction (my cashieres are under strict orders not to give out extras) and even if either is pennies short they don't get the desired snack...though I will let them know one they can afford. While they don't know any better my store can't go broke, becuase like children they manipulate the situation. If you always give them 50 cents they begin to lie. It's a human tendency to sin, to do wrong.
