mcts
By some miracle, I ended up with Easter Sunday off from both of my jobs (retail and a casino). Apparently, no matter what day it is, people still want to buy televisions and gamble.

Have you taken it up with the union, or considered another line of work (or at least another company)?
AnneLine
he he he he I think he should take it up with the Boss! But, as they say, the pay isn't much, but the retirement benefits are out of this world!
AnneLine
Something I've noticed last year or so is that many schools in our area seem to be having their Easter / Spring Breaks during different weeks. At first I thought it was just becuase last year Easter was so late... but it seems to still be happening this year. Do you think part of it may be to spread out the weeks that students are off so there won't be so much of a 'Spring Break - time to head for Cancun' kind of thing? Kind of break it up or something? (I am DEFINITELY in favor of doing it around Holy Week, but if anyone hopped out of a cake and asked me my opinion, I'd suggest breaking from Wednesday of Holy Week through Tuesday of Easter Week -- let us get our holy days and some holidays... and a little time to get caught up on school work? Thoughts? Edited April 5, 2012 by AnneLine
BG45
I'm lecturing on focus groups on Good Friday afternoon. The prof I'm guest lecturing for already told me to anticipate at least 50% of the people not showing due to it being a holiday weekend afternoon. I'm thinking my normal meal for fasting purposes will be right before the lecture! But overall, I don't think I've had an Easter related day off in six years. Fr. Cappie pwns though. fides' Jack
I really don't think anyone has to go into school on Easter. Some people might have to work, but I get every Sunday off anyway...

AnneLine
I think it is deliberate. But it is a real hassle for the parents and staff who attend the college and who have kids in school who get the breaks on a different week..... end up paying for daycare the week they are off... and don't have the kids around to take off on a vacation if so inclined. Brother... On the other hand... may be a good chance ot get some personal time? I always hated it when we got Holy Week off school and I was in school and working... usually had tons of papers due on Easter Monday, and still had the full work load at work.... and the full Church load.... felt like I was running 3 full time jobs.... TheresaThoma
I think God plans my work schedule. For no apparent reason I get off work on Friday in time to go to Good Friday services (its a tight turn around but I can do it). Then I got all of Saturday off, which is great because as a sponsor in RCIA I have practice for the Vigil in the morning and then the Vigil in the evening. I didn't even ask for those days/times off and I don't even think the person that does the scheduling knows I'm Catholic.
