Archbishops John Vlazny of Portland, Oregon and John Listecki of Milwaukee, WI were teachers at my high school (Archbishop Vlazny was moderator of our Spanish club). The teacher in one of my PE classes at UIC is now head trainer for the Chicago Blackhawks. I've also met Grant Mulvey (former Blackhawk and now part owner of the Chicago Wolves) at a hockey clinic. I've met and spoken with the late Rep. Henry Hyde. Duke University coach Mike Krzyzewski is from my family's ancestral parish (St. Helen in Chicago) and attended the same high school as two of my cousins. Once, when we had a mass for my late uncle, one of my cousins happened to see him there and got him to autograph the parish bulletin for his son. Unfortunately, not all my brushes with fame are positive; I attended high school for about a year with (now) homosexual activist Dan Savage.
