Did The New Translation Without Using The Cheatsheet

A Mini rant ---- WHY did they take the cheat sheets out of a bunch of the parishes in this area this weekend?

I've heard from a bunch of friends who were totally frustrated because someone thought it was a good idea to get rid of them at the same time they switched off the misalettes. Which meant there was a lot of TOTAL SILENCE and mumbling for the responses in many parishes this weekend.

:please:

Time to replace them, guys.... and leave them in the pews... this is going to take a while.....

Repeat after me: I love the new liturgy, I love the new liturgy, I love the new liturgy..... :nun1: :nun1: :nun1:

rotfl I wasn't expecting that picture! However I am almost there with the Translation. The only thing I don't have down yet is the Creed. I'm working on it. I'm surprised I've got the Confitieor (or however it's spelled) down. And the rest of the responses have come pretty naturally now

I'm off the sheet now, too! But I'll be right back on it again after Easter now that the Gloria is coming back. Sigh.

Yeah I forgot about the Gloria. But half the time I sing it anyway. In this case, the Latin Mass is so much easier

I just do what I've always done with the old translation, just be quiet and keep moving my lips at the parts I don't know.

I still think the name of my old Bishop in the Eucharistic Prayer (I like to read along in my missal, it helps me concentrate) and I left that diocese two years ago. I don't cope well with change. Some of the smaller changes I can do by heart but things like the Nicene Creed and the Sanctus I still need my missal.

Emily Ann.... I totally knlow what you mean! It takes me FOREVER to learn something... and TWICE FOREVER to UNLEARN something!!!!! If I'm not really concentrating and pray the Morning Offering, I find myself praying for "John Paul our Pope and John our bishop (John was our bishop in the 1970's!!!!!) My brain thinks it is living in 1978!!!!

dUSt -- you remind me of when I go to a funeral vigil in the Italian community (my husband's family is 1st generation)..... don't know all the prayers in Italian... but I do know them in Spanish... said quickly enough and mumbly enough, and everyone thinks I'm part of 'la famiglia' rather than just 'married in'.....

Buon giorno, tutti!

Wow! We still have our cheat sheets AND new books that have all the new translations in them! And when we got the new books, Father walked everyone through them so we could all follow along in there!

I know... I don't know what they are thinking. I suspect it is that there are a few 'clean up the church for Easter' types who have already memorized the words, and don't realize that the rest of us are trying really hard, still NEED them and getting really frustrated!

They ran over the words with us, too... and gave us all the catechesis on the reason for the changes. I've tried sitting with the missalette and memorizing... but it is going to take a while to override 40 years of programing (in other words, probably about 15000 masses)..... the 'and with your spirit' is willing but the 'and also with you' is weak....

Fortunately the Lord knows just how weak I am, and that I am trying hard to be meek. Pray for me....

Last night during the Holy Thursday Liturgy something clicked and I just knew all those responses. Not sure if it finally was the long learning curve (typical of those of us with learning disabilities...) or if all your prayers finally helped me to make it through my spiritual swamp... but it happened.

I am grateful for all of you who were so kind and understanding when I was struggling so... you will never know how hard it was to admit that struggle to all of you.

I prayed for all of you in a special way during the Adoration after the Holy Thursday liturgy. Grateful for being among you, Pham.
