I'm not hatin'. lol I couldn't live that way entirely (vegan is not for me. Heck, I couldn't go vegetarian, either. I like burgers and chicken WAY too much), but once a week it's certainly doable. ;)

It's not protein, I need iron. I'm hugely deficient and I don't eat seafood so I've been told meat (along with some other stuff like vitamin c) is the best way to go since the supplements make me really ill. A day may not seem like a lot but even a day just knocks me down.

On second thought I can live without being able to get up in the morning and have no hair left. :hehe2:

Broccoli too. I take an iron pill once a month (you can probably guess when) because I tend to get iron deficient very easily as well.

Eggs, fish, and (dark) green leafy veggies (not just regular iceburg lettuce) are high in iron. Apricots are, too. Dried Turkish apricots are actually wild grown and harvested and are high in betacarotene, magnesium, potassium, calcium, and iron. All you have to do is check the package, usually I've found that they are Turkish apricots when I look. Bean sprouts are also a good source of iron.

There you have it, a few more options for sources rich in iron that aren't meat or spinach. ;)

I never realised eggs were good. Hmm. I foresee scrambled eggs in my Fridays for the future.

If you can get your hands on fresh farm eggs, preferably from chickens that are allowed to roam the farmyard a little bit, those are THE BEST. But any eggs are better than none.

Well beans and certain dried fruits are in the recommended high iron diet (I also have iron issues).Eggs also have lots of iron (especially when cooked in an iron skillet) http://www.webmd.com/diet/features/top-10-iron-rich-foods

This link includes high iron foods AND foods that can inhibit iron absorption (very interesting!)

But do check with a nutritionist and/or your doctor and possibly your confessor/priest if you have been advised you should have the meat.
