MissScripture
Yes we want pictures, and actually I was thinking it sounded like a rather nice idea. Sometimes people don't always wear the most modest dresses for confirmation.
While I like the modesty idea, I think it will only contribute to further make people view this as "Catholic graduation."
I was just joking. Anytime I hear about that I chuckle. Great idea, but it just makes me think of New Age stuff for some reason. haha
Probably because in tv shows they always show weird new age-y stuff with people wearing robes when they have ceremonies. Though, priests also wear robes. But they are not (always) ugly and ridiculous looking.
When I put it on it makes me want to lift my hands in the air and say, "HALLELUJAH!"
Shh! It's LENT! Don't say that!

MissyP89
I was confirmed 8 years ago (I'm 22), and we wore white robes. They buttoned right at the neck, and when I knelt for communion it choked me! And the robe was long, so I was kneeling on it. This only made things worse. My shoes came off during Mass, too, but that's another story. Put simply, I was a mess at Confirmation. AnneLine
Hope they don't add the white beanie with the red pompom. Trust me, it makes that red robe take on a new dimension of ugly. My confirmation was the first time I got to wear nylons. Whoo-hoooo! And my first high heels! Yippee! That was also the first and last time I fell down the entire church stairs.... and it was this church: and yes, I was the flashing red ball going down all 20 of them, front and center, in front of about 100 confirmandi and families and friends... and a bishop. And then limping my way up to the same bishop to be confirmed.... Definitely remember my confirmation. Both nylons and shoes were total write-offs... fortunately the Confirmation was not. Wonderful Sacrament! Just goes to show what is really important! When is your Confirmation -- we want to be praying! EmilyAnn
I've never heard of people wearing red for Confirmation. That's new to me. When I was confirmed girls wore white dresses. I can't remember what the boys wore. It wasn't at my own parish, I had to go somewhere else because I was away when they did it at my parish. I don't think anyone at that parish would have dared try wear an immodest dress, the priest gave us such a lecture on modesty in the rehearsal! MissScripture
I would guess the red is for the Holy Spirit. We didn't have any color requirements for my confirmation. I don't even remember any modesty discussion, but I probably wouldn't, since my parents would have never considered letting me wear something immodest, so the lecture wouldn't have really been necessary to me. i<3LSOP
At my brothers Confirmation, they told the girls if they could see their straps or too much of their legs they would have to wear an alter server robe. I looked down the hallway and Sr. Rose was pulling down on a girl's dress. It was funny because that girl is such a brat in her personality (sorry but it is true) and is always wearing super immodest clothing. REVENGE! the171
I don't know where I am being confirmed yet... Bishop will tell me in due time. I think one of the EFM priests of our diocese will confirm me... or him... idk yet.

AnneLine
It is funny.... NOW. I also remember it took quite a bit of work to get the mangled nylons off my skinned leg... the people who rented the gowns were nice - didn't even make us pay for the one that was, uh, a little worse for the wearing. BUT.... I do remember the ceremony! I also remember to LOOK for the top of stairs and HOLD handrails. I'm a slow study, but I really can learn if the lesson is presented well enough.... and I am sure the Holy Spirit had a little to do with that one! AnneLine
FCC.... Now, if you don't like the red robes.... how about this -- it IS a different look: Actually, check out the article -- what an amesome thing - a confirmation and RCIA class in Iraq!!!! (Which explains why the priest-chaplain is doing the confirmation --- Archibishop for the Military Diocese delegated him the authority.) Fascinating article! http://www.army.mil/article/32173/ It gives the whole 'soldiers for Christ' theme (popular when I was prepping for Confirmation) a whole new dimension... It is also a wonderful reminder for us to pray for those about to be brought into the Church at Easter!!!! I looked around for pictures of how your red robes might look, but all I could find was the ones below. (My college my biological anthropology professor would have said that the ones below are a good example of 'sexual dimorphism'--males and females in this second species of Confirmandi look VERY different!) You can see some more pictures here if you are interested (I am not connected with the parish, but I think it is nice that they put these on the parish website! http://www.ololchurc...f_April26th.htm They really don't look too bad, FCC. And you will be glowing with the Holy Spirit. You'll be fine! Have you selected a Confirmation name? Edited March 31, 2012 by AnneLine

The son joined the Marines straight out of high school and my sister joined the Nashville Dominicans. Our parents always talk about how they will both be fighting battles. My sister even considered submitting the name Michaela Fidelis for her religious name, for St. Michael and to remind her of spiritual warfare. She ended up not submitting that name, though, because it was too much of a mouthful and she didn't think her future students would be able to handle it if she were to teach the lower grades. I am excited to receive the sacrament, though! A little nervous... Yes, my name is going to be Maria-Therese for St. Maria Goretti and St. Therese!!!
