so, I meant would he willingly sit down in a theater to watch a movie where kids are killing each other, even if it had a good message?????

Better not read any books where they nail Jews to trees, then.

Yes i never read the books. My sisters did and they enjoyed it. I just thought is was very slow paced and didn't give us enough to really care about these characters. The suits of the city folk we a bit of a weird contrast.

The citizens of the Captiol are supposed to show a stark contrast to the people of the districts. They live in opulence at the expense of the poor working class people of the districts.

I saw this movie and I have to say I hated it, only because it was so disturbing to me. I am a grownup and I had to turn away at one point because the situations were so unbelievable. The scene with the dog-like creatures ... I do kind of regret giving someone money to create that kind of scene. Some things should remain in the realm of imagination. Just unbelievable suffering.

The movie is generally a lite version compared to the book, that scene in particular:
in the book Cato was wearing a suit of armor that deflected one of Katniss's arrows before they reached the cornucopia, so when Cato fell, his body was being torn apart throughout the entire night (the armor now working very much against him) while Katniss and Peeta nearly froze to death.
OH and those dog things were engineered to look like the dead tributes. They had their same human eyes and fur/hair color. Even little Rue :(. Perhaps even their brains (Katniss debates how much of the actual tribute is in the beast)
I thought the movie shouldn't have held back on the violence, but I understand why they did (their fanbase being young and all), but there is a point to it IMO.

Father Barron (who I'm a huge biased fan of) agrees. http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/priest-calls-hunger-games-movie-dangerously-prophetic/

So, I just got back from watching the movie and I have to say it was really depressing!!!!! Lots of violence/ gloom and doom and I really wish they could have the same message with a better tone. like, make it lighter for instance! Half the movie was about imminent death and the other half was about running away from immanent death! I really hope there is another movie because otherwise this movie was terrible! If you are looking for the message, then yes you can see it but if you are not concerned with the message then all the movie is, is a bunch of depressing gloom and gore. I don't think I would see it again if I had a choice.

...um, yeah, it's depressing. Lol, that's pretty much what everyone's been saying about it. :) They couldn't make it lighter...they already did make it lighter than the books. I'm not sure how you could possibly have the same message with any kind of lighter tone. We can learn a whole lot from stories that aren't completely historically true or are just entirely made up. These are stories about an evil powers using people and people trying to overcome it. I'm not sure what else you were expecting...

There will be three more movies, based on the two sequel books.
