Would Jesus Watch The Hunger Games?!

I'm curious as to why you think he wouldn't.

I'm personally not a fan of the whole 'What Would Jesus Do' thing. We are not the Son of God. I prefer thinking of it as "What Would Jesus Want Me To Do". But that's just me being pernickety.

More on topic, does it matter? is watching The Hunger Games bad or sinful? No. I'll be seeing it next week.

I haven't seen it yet, nor have I read the books. However, I think it would be a good movie based off of Fr. Barron's commentary concerning it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RsFBbS39_z0&feature=g-all-u&context=G27cff10FAAAAAAAAGAA Check it out!

I like WWJD - I think it's more about acting in the spirit of Jesus, than imitating his literal actions - but I see your point. The last time I asked myself that question I had just caught sight of a homeless man as I came out of the sandwich shop with my lunch. I had a sudden image of myself multiplying the sandwich and handing out the extras to at least five thousand homeless individuals. :P

I loved the books personally and can't wait to see the movie. :)

We are told to render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and what is God's unto God. But the people of Panem face a very different situation than Roman taxation of a conquered people, a human tithe of children that are called to fight to the death.

I saw the movie and am now reading the book. Reading or watching the Hunger Games is not morally good or bad. As Catholics we can encounter it and find good in it and use that good to evangelize people as to the dignity of human life (which the book upholds), the moral evil of consumerism (which the book condemns), and the possible corruption of human government.

I don't know I mean it's about killing and it's like an annual thing that they put these children through at their town. It is kind of sickening. But I still like the books because of the action.

Okay, so I was kind of being silly when I made this thread but I said I don't think he would because killing is a mortal sin and the movie is about kids killing each other and so I was thinking along the lines of "why watch people commit mortal sins (even if just reenacted) for entertainment no matter how action packed and razzle dazzle the movie is?" CNS says:"Though presumably targeted -- at least in part -- at teens, the dystopian adventure "The Hunger Games" (Lionsgate) involves enough problematic content to give parents pause."

I really don't care entirely about the hunger games but it does seem to be quite gory. However, I do realize you could also ask the question "does the message out weight the violence?" Just a thought!

Yeah, but the whole point is that the killing is wrong.
