Ok. Well. I stopped reading when you started babbling about the news media and President Bush. I think it's safe to say that this is my fault. I should have known better than to try to have a reasonable discussion with you. For my personal obstinacy, in thinking despite past experience that such a feat was possible, and for wasting both of our time by engaging you in conversation, I apologize.

Have a nice day.

I accept the surrender of your attempt to overplay a logical fallacy when such justification was not to be found. Although due to past experience, I expect we'll dual another day with a similar cop-out ending.

Till next time?

I am saying that I find this story suspect. I find it suspect because the only sources that you seem to be able to find for it are activist groups rather than any actual news agencies. And it seems that all instance of the sources you cite actually go back to one source. Am I saying that they made this story up whole-cloth? Probably not. But I would wait to accept this story until you have a wider diversity of sources and reporting agencies.

I can understand your concern, but to be ... whatever, US national news smells of elderberries. I've started watching LATV and Telemundo news for news. Even though I can only understand about half of it, I still get more of what is happening worldwide and nationally than from US stations. lol.

Telemundo? Really? Well I guess maybe their news program is ok ... as long as you don't go to stuff like "Primer Impacto" which is full of stuff I don't like.

This scares the living daylights out of me! I'm not even married but I've already decided to have home births where possible and homeschool my kids. Part of the reason for that is stories like this. Its absolutely shocking.

I can not believe it. You have a mother in labor and all she can think is if her child is healthy or not, which is a good thing, Nurses and the doctors wore informing her while they were doing it? That a wrong in my book.

That will depend on my future willingness to engage in the equivalent of arguing with a rock. I'd like to think that I'll be able to resist, but I probably won't.

There certainly could have been an act of government overreach/stupidity here. But I would wait until an actual news service picks up on this. even outlets like FOX and MSNBC will usually give a cursory overview of the other side. Right now the only reporting is a one sided accounting from an activist group. How close is the truth to how they reported it? Nobody knows. But there's probably another side. That doesn't mean that the other side is inherently more honest or reliable either, but the truth tends to come out once you have two sides in conflict both with an interest in discrediting the other and proving their version of events true. Like in a court room.

I understand that that sort of nuance is too much for some here So for them, here is another way of putting it it: LOL CNN HASN'T REPORTED IT IT CAN'T BE TRUE!!!!!

You quit right after I issued a reasonable challenge on the truth history of the activist group. I mean, they have been around since like 1983 so it's not like they formed yesterday, or they have no precedent. But this is nuanced so some people may not be able to understand.

You readily admit that the source does not determine the logical truth, yet you still fuss with childish insults of boring predictability.

What is "actual news?" Oh wait, that's right, it's what Hasan determines to be. :topsy:

I'm very familiar with HSLDA. They typically don't get involved with cases like this, being primarily (very nearly solely) about homeschooling. It would be extremely out of character--rather pointless, even--for them to lie about the case.
And things like this happen rather often (perhaps not going so far as to kick the mother out of the hospital, though); it's not so far fetched that I'm suspicious about the reality of the case. I never hear hospitals or social workers criticized in the media, anyway, so I'm not terribly troubled by the fact that it isn't there in this case, either.

The ONLY time you will see anything in a newspaper about a caseworker is when the child in question dies.Otherwise this kind of stuff doesn't make the news, and it does happen, particularly on weekends when the on-call caseworker is whoever signed up for that weekend.

Yeah, I was surprised to see HSLDA involved. They are very particular about the cases that they get involved with. Most are specifically homeschooling cases, with a few parental rights cases.
