CatherineM
We just had the condo upstairs blessed. He did a minor exorcism rite with vestments, holy water, holy oil, and the whole nine yards. There were six of us there. He had readings and a type of homily and psalms. He annointed all the doors and the spots where the voodoo dolls had been and heh wall that had blood splattered on it. He had done this before. He's a Basilian priest and was once stationed in New Mexico near the border. He had dealt with people who had bought places where the previous residents had done Santeria. The whole building feels better. I realize this could just be psychological, but I'll take it.
IcePrincessKRS
I'm glad you had it done. And I'm glad you feel better. A good blessing + exorcism can't have hurt that place after all the creepiness that that man had going on for the last 20 years.

AnneLine
Hey... do you have any left over Epiphany Blessing chalk and holy water and incense? Why not just get the Three Magi to do their thing at the front door of your building while you are at it? AnneLine
Really? Well, if they scare you, then you don't have to have them come over. I've always seen them as the three 'wise guys' and as the patron saints of all who seek Wisdom... but that's just me. Never know when friends just won't like each other. Invite some Holy People you like!

CatherineM
The city appraises the 2 bedroom units in our building at $149,000, and we paid $88,000 for it. Our bank appraised it for mortgage purposes at $75,000. We will have just at $100,000 invested by the time we get the renovations finished. Sweat equity is the best kind. The exorcism was free, but Father Mark owed me one. Appliances from the scratch and dent, and most of the reno supplies are from Habitat for Humanity. We are doing some barter too. Plumber needs some tailoring done.
AnneLine
Let me clarify -- Catherine, I meant you paid dearly in terms of sweat, tears and heart for the condo. The money is incidental. You and Austin are worth millions in my book.. .and I bet in Zack's, too....
AnneLine
Gonna go pray now, and will pray for you and all who come into your shiny new Abode of the Sacred Heart! Truly land reclaimed!
CatherineM
So the former owner came by today to clean the rest of his carp out of the storage room upstairs. Our basset hound only barks when someone comes by, but it is an excited, "please come pet me" kind of bark. Instead this time, he started growling and snapping at the fellow. He was very upset. He had never acted like that to this guy before. It was weird. The last time one of my bassets acted that way was to a new neighbor in St. Pete that we found out two weeks later had just gotten out of jail and was a convicted pedophile. I guess he might have been reacting to how the guy was feeling about my husband. I suspect he smelled that this was the guy who belonged to the "bad" book. Bassets are supposed to have about 7 million times better noses than we do.
CatherineM
Okay now I am really freaked. After we went into the storage to make sure he took everything, we discovered that he left something important behind. Two urns full of human remains. I guess they are his aunt and uncle who left him the apartment. They are now sitting on our kitchen counter. I am unnerved, and Austin and Zack are beyond freaked out.
