I read somewhere that the version of the film that's shown over in UK is different to America, apparently they had to recut it and tone down the violence to get a 12's film certification.

Personally I really enjoyed it but it is violent. Less so then the books but there's still the theme of children killing children. I love the scenes where we see things we don't get to see in the books because the books are only told from Katniss's point of view. Like the control room for the games, Haymitch talking to the sponsors, the uprising during the games.

They cut out 7 seconds of film for the UK, because you can't show bloody weapons and have the rating they wanted, or something like that. Yeah, it's children killing children, but the message is that kids killing kids is wrong, lol.

I was pretty happy with all the things they added. The author collaborated with the writers, especially for those extra scenes. I think they really added a "why" that you don't get in the books, or you don't get it until later on. I really liked the tweaks and development of Haymitch's character.

SOOOO, isn't this like, a really violent movie? I just know that a lot of people die. Does it have a christian message at least?

I saw it last night, and I liked it. It does stray from the book a bit here and there, and there are parts that I thought were kinda cheesy, but over all it was good.
I read the first book, and I'm 30% through the second book. So far, so good.

And yes. Katniss was right on. I was surprised to see how big/old Gale looked. :P

I think so. Katniss's little sister is randomly picked to go fight in the "games", and she volunteers in her place to save her (not really a spoiler - this part is in all the trailers). Katniss isn't a perfect Christian hero - she's much more willing to do whatever it takes to survive instead of being like Peeta, who is trying to stay true to what he believes is right. But she learns, and grows a bit, and fights for those she loves.

It's violent, but not gory, if that makes any sense. The violence only happens in the second half of the movie, and even then it's not constant. It's about kids being forced to kill each other on national television for the entertainment of the rich, materialistic people living in the Capital, and a way of keeping the other, poorer districts from rising against the ruling class, because they have a yearly reminder of how the Capital is powerful enough to even make their children kill each other year after year. The violence is only glorified by people who are supposed to be "villains" in the story, and the games are opposed by people who are supposed to be the heroes.

Of course I know it's Captiol. But if I say "Capital," non-fans will better understand what I'm talking about and not think that I can't spell. :hehe2:

I would ask the people who have read the books and seen the movies about that. They seem to say that the violence is toned down in the movies.

The violence is pretty in your face in the movie, but most of it is implicit rather than head-on. You see more blood splatter and than actual inflicting of wounds. But they did stay pretty true to the books when it came to violence.

I think we could have some really interesting conversations about who was more moral, between Katniss and Peeta. I think there's a good argument on both sides. Peeta is fighting for the well-being of a crush, Katniss for her family... different things speak for both of them.
