Is everyone to be restricted to only posting things that they know everyone (or at least all of the staff) will like, and no one will dislike?

Peace be with you, brother.

Pro tip: Not an amesome idea to start attacking the moderators as a newbie. We are all so glad you found our community and hope your experience here is rich and rewarding. We also hope you stick around for a long, long time. That being said, if you want to enjoy a positive relationship with the community at large, it's really best to give everyone the benefit of the doubt.

Not to make you feel left out or small or anything, but a lot of us have been around for a very long time and have history with a lot of the members - some good, some not so good. We are all doing our very best to navigate this thing with humility and respect; we would appreciate the same from you, starting with a less assumptive approach! :)

And one last thing about this piece (specifically the part which is bolded above): I think only four of the "staff" have vocalized annoyance with a lack of respect - shown through lolcats, MLP, etc.

It is important to remember that although we are generally held to a higher standard when we post, we are posting as our own persons, not necessarily as moderators. :) A lot of times we agree with each other (perhaps because we all love this place very much), but then, a lot of times we don't.

I think there is a broader issue here that we shouldn't be picking on the ponies for. I've already noticed, in my short time here, several posts that were utterly offensive and lacking in charity towards the intended recipient - in plain sight, too - yet these posts were not moderated.
Question: did you report them?
Another: did you correct them with charity?

And just in case you were unaware, unless it's a very blatant guideline violation, all of the moderating decisions are left up to dUSt. He's the head honcho around here, and he makes the tough calls.

I don't think we should be harping on ponies as a whole; instead we should be harping on lack of charity, and while that may affect some of the pony posts, I don't think justice calls for us to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

This issue has come up time and time again, and it falls on deaf ears. So many of us have taken to prayer. I would invite you to do the same.
P.S. I know you're the mod and have the right to do whatever you want - I just thought I would throw this out there. ;)

A common misconception, this is not true. :)

If my post was an attack on her, then I apologize. My intention was to critique some of the statements that have been made in this thread concerning the restriction of posting content that some members don't like. I tried not to assume things that were not said but to instead show how that line of thinking can be consistently applied in other areas. I know she is a mod and an older member, but I figured I could still disagree with her and not be seen as in bad standing.

I also did not correct them because they were posts in popular topics that the mods were posting in, so I figured they had seen them, which is why I held my tongue. But perhaps next time I will say something. :)

You can certainly disagree with any of us as often as you'd like. Some are more open to continuing dialogue about the disagreement than others (some are willing to inspect every hair of the dead horse before saying, "ENOUGH," bless their hearts) but we definitely respect that our opinions may -- er, WILL -- differ at times.

Having been around a while and having witnessed a lot of recent interaction with one of the larger offenders (who consistently disrespects the boards and her members), I completely understood whence Ice came and where she was going with it. I understand you have not been around long enough to know where all the difficulties lie, nor would you necessarily be as fed up with the disrespect as perhaps some of us might be.

We are a pretty loving, forgiving group, I think, but there comes a point when all of us have had enough, and we put down our collective foot. :)

Just remember that if it's not something blatant (e.g. name-calling), dUSt will be making the call. Moderators have gotten a horribly bad rap for trying to maintain a peaceful, respectful environment here, so we really just try to nab the blatant stuff and leave the fraternal correction to our larger community. When the community demands respect, the community gets respect.

As a side note, I will tell you that I often avoid fraternal correction here as often as possible; my role as a moderator can sometimes intimidate people and cause them to become defensive faster than usually they would. As a general rule, I think most moderators operate this way. The exception of course is with people we know in real life; that's a little different.
