"dooms Day"

Last night, I was watching a television show with my family. The show was called Dooms Day: Bunkers. Basically, the show is about people who are so terrified of the end of the world that they spend their whole savings on something that might not work and that they think will save their families lives. So, of course, at ten o'clock when the show was over, my brothers started talking about it. And, in their opinion, a Zombie Apocalypse is in our futures. But from my skimming of Revelations in the Bible, I read absolutely not one word of anything about a Zombie Apocalypse ending the world. This whole thing has been bothering me since last night. And with all the talk of Zombie's coming, I'm not sure about it.
I'm 13 and I am wondering if there is any way Zombie's could take over and potentially kill everyone. I don't think this can happen from what I have quickly read in the Bible, but I'm still questioning it. Any answers are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

First of all, welcome to Phatmass!

Personally, no, I don't think God is ever going to be sending a zombie apocalypse our way. The only instance I can think of in religious literature where one has been (seriously) mentioned is in the Epic of Gilgamesh that tells the Babylonian creation story. In it, the goddess Inanna is descending into the underworld because of her love for someone and she threatens to unleash its denizens upon the Earth to feast upon the living.

Zechariah speaks of a great plague that will be levied against the enemies of the Lord, and describes how those affected will be like walking corpses, but this is more of a description of how much they're going to suffer and be gaunt and corpselike, rather than an actual zombie. Likewise, the book of Ezekiel talks about dry bones coming to life, but it's more of a metaphor for the restoration of Israel as a nation after its capitivity in Babylon, and a possible foreshadowing of our own hope of Ressurection in Christ. :)

Overall, the modern idea of the zombie and the zombie apocalypse can mainly be traced back to a few fictional novels at the beginning of the last century that were inspired by Haitian voodoo practices and George Romero's classic film "Night of the Living Dead".

Hope this all helps some in putting the mind at ease! If not, Cracked has a nice article on why a zombie apocalypse is impossible.

Fortunately neither science nor I believe the Bible expect a Zombie Apocolypse. I'm not worried about it.

In fact, science has been studing dead things since ancient Greece, and in that time not one single report has ever been filed of something dead getting sick. Doesn't sound promising for the Zombie Apocolypse to me.

If I were God, and I were looking at all the crapola going on in the world today, I would definitely be thinking zombies!

And before George Washington, no one had ever crossed the Delaware.

If I were God I'd rather send an asteroid to the Earth. Human Pizza! :muffin:

But people had crossed rivers before. If the dead started getting sick all of sudden what makes you think that automatically they would kill the living and want to eat human brains? Evolution does not work that way.

You're comparing the Delaware to all other rivers. You've apparently not navigated many rivers. Each one requires special skills. The rate of current and the conflicting shore portages presented problems that no person had yet overcome.

That is exactly how evolution works: You're limiting the cause of zombies to "the dead". There are many other beings in our universe. There is the possibility of germs doing it. You've never seen the science film Resident Evil, which is based upon the sciences worked during the period of developing the nuclear bombs.

Nihil Obstat

Hey y'all, we're not sola scriptura fundies! Just because zombies aren't in the Bible doesn't mean that zombies aren't real!
What we really should be discussing is if a zombiefied person has to be re-baptized and re-confirmed after their transformation.

And then everyone needs to shut up about zombies already, because Nosferatu.

Exactly. You do realize in evolution things don't just appear out of nowhere right? Something has to come before them, and what exactly would be an ancestor for zombism?

No, I never argued that death is a causation of zombism.

Resident Evil was a science film? LOL. Try video game turned into a movie.

If you're talking about devlopment of weapons (germ warfare) you're equally misguided. You don't understand the vast scope of the human mind and how virius, by defintion, are very limited in their nature.

The basis of your argument is the behavior of observed corpses, obviously discounting organisms external to the human corpse. The flaw in your theory is clear.

Scientists invented video games, and many biologists from the CDC were consulted in the creation of the film, which was only released after the video games because they were worried the movie wouldn't be popular.

Hence evolution.

And science grows by leaps and bounds, as evidenced by the invention of electricity.
