IcePrincessKRS
None of the candidates make me happy. I know so many people on the Ron Paul bandwagon, and while he's better than some in certain areas, I am still uncomfortable with him.
Winchester
Already aware of this, and weighed it against the alleged beliefs, but real behavior, of the other candidates. And his support for abortions at the very early stage in which he approves of acts that will lead to abortion is due to his error in the lack of surety of pregnancy. He believes (in error) that the lack of surety permits the use of abortifacient means. So it's not a matter of waking up, it's a matter of choosing the least flawed candidate. One who actually refuses to fund Planned Parenthood and rejects war. The rhetoric of the other candidates ends at their speeches--they will still fund abortion mills, and they will support war. Nihil Obstat
Also I remember when that interview came out. I didn't think it was clear, at least from how it was reported, as to whether or not they were talking about pre- or post-fertilization. The interview question, the answer, and the reporting seemed to have been spun, skewed, and mis-represented. Basically every variable made the issue less clear. I've yet to see a truly clarifying treatment of that, and there's less than zero chance of getting one from the Huffington Post.[quote name='Winchester' timestamp='1332439030' post='2405406'] We should post pictures of our tinfoil hats, too. Shoot, you don't have to believe in traunsubstantiation or the Immaculate Conception to understand why abortion might be a very important issue. 4588686
Ron Paul couldn't end abortion even if he wanted to. Abortion is a right guaranteed by the Constitution's Privacy protections. Maybe you dislike that but that has been the consistent ruling of the court for almost half a century now. Roe v. Wade occurred under the Burger court (nominally conservative) and was continually reaffirmed under the Rehnquist court (actually conservative). It still has yet to be overturned despite the current USSC being the most conservative in half a century. The President does not have the power to end abortion. Neither does the congress. Most of the anti-abortion legislation of substance (that is, legislative attempts to bully women into conforming to Christian attitudes concerning abortion) is occurring at the state level, where the USSC has given state government more discretion in attempting to hamper women from accessing abortion services. Why Catholics continue to allow the republican party to dupe them into believing that any substantive anti-abortion action is going to take place on the federal level is beyond me. They have, however, done a beaver dam fine job of convincing many Catholics to turn their back on the social justice aspects of their faith in the irrational hope that somehow by electing a pro-life President they are conforming to the moral demands of their Church, despite the President's impotence on this matter.
