Nihil Obstat
Very cute! How much does it cost you in materials, and how long does it take to make one?
Lisa
They are adorable! If you do sell them, make sure you factor in all costs, including supplies and labor! I can see these being a big hit!
Strictlyinkblot
They're gorgeous. I want one anyway. I don't know much about Etsy shops but make sure to get your money through Paypal. Also, don't forget to add in for packaging as well as postage.
Nihil Obstat
Assuming you're planning on making some money from these, make sure to keep these things in mind: 1- Overall cost of product: Make sure to include everything that goes into the production process. I'm assuming all of your costs are variable, so we're talking materials (and time as well, more on that below). If you need any tools to make them, that's a fixed cost, so keep that in mind too, and integrate it into your price. 1-b Time to produce/opportunity cost: If you do want to make some money, make sure it's worth your time. You wouldn't want to spend three hours making one, and then sell it for a $5 profit, because then you're working for less than $2 an hour. 2- Shipping: Make the buyer pay shipping or you'll lose most or all of your profit. If you start up an online shop, make sure to be able to reference shipping prices quickly for your customers. Be careful to package them appropriately. 3- Price: Determine what a fair price is, based on your own costs (remember, time and materials), and shipping rates, and make sure you have a market at your price. 4- Paypal: Do your transactions through PayPal for security. Anyway, I think it looks great. Are you thinking about doing priests too, perhaps?

mysisterisalittlesister
Thanks for the advice, guys! If I am going to sell them, I think it would be a few months, so that I could make lots in advance. For pricing, does $10 sound good? That's not including shipping, but it takes about two hours or so for me to make them, and lots of clay. I was also contemplating donating the proceeds to the different orders that I make. What do ya think?
maybe...$20 just seems like a lot. Their only about 2 1/2 inches tall. Going to post a pic of a Poor Clare I did soon. Wow, there is a LOT to their habit! Although much higher and you may not find people willing to buy.
AnneLine
They are darling, and I also think they would be a big hit... which means you really do have to listen to what Nihil Obstat was saying. And.... much as I hate to bring up one more factor... if you make over a certain amount with them (and I don't know what that would be) you might have to pay taxes... and THAT can get really really steep! So... you may have to really look into this a bit. On the other hand... if you are donating them, maybe no taxes. Or maybe you can hook up with the guy who does the Mater Ecclesia fund stuff and have him 'vend' them and take the profits for his candidates who want to enter-- in fact, maybe he can help with the materials costs... they'd be a great promo item for him! You could make the little dolls in the habits of the communities the candidates are hoping to enter! The Carmelite Nuns in Notting Hill in London (where FaithCecilia entered a few months back) have somthing they call 'crafty nuns'.. They are fabric, but a similar kind of thing (but I like yours better. ) Here 's a link http://carmelitesnot...g.uk/craftynun/ They are charging 6.5 pounds for them, which translates to $10.31 (according to today's conversion chart... could change tomorrow). Their website says the price includes postage, but it would probably have an extra cost if going outside UK). BUT they don't have to worry about taxes (I don't think). And people are willing to pay amounts that seem a little high if they are 'giving' the money to the Nuns. If it takes you 2 hours, at least $20 and probably $30 -- but people probably wouldn't pay that much. Frustrating dilemma!
