The way that they score it in NY is that for every time you do something wrong you get so many points added. If they add up to over 30 or 35, you fail.

I got around 25... But I still passed!!!

Kentucky is scored exactly the opposite way - you start at 100, and are docked points when you mess up. Score below 80 (IE: Lose 21+ points) and you fail. Different infractions are worth greater numbers of points docked - with illegal actions generally being automatic failures.

I auto-failed when I accidentally drove the entire back half of my car onto the sidewalk while attempting to parallel park. Bonus points: Here the driving test is conducted on actual roads in-town. The parallel parking segment of the test that I failed? It was in front of my house.

They had me parallel park on a real street, but they have cones set up. I hit a cone. It irritated me, because I was taught how to gague when to turn based on the other vehicles and what I could see. I couldn't do that using cones. I passed my second test.

On a side note: why do they do the vision test AFTER the road test?

Penguin - I hate parallel parking and try to avoid it. I lived outside the city, so thankfully didn't know the area where I was parking. and yay Kentucky. ;)

Congratulations!! And good luck Elizabeth09!

Thank you, BG45. It means a lot to me. My dad thought that I will be ready this week, but not really. I do not think that they take off to many points for parallel park, but still. Of all things that I could get, that the one that been troubling me the worse. Just ask my dad any day.

Way back at the beginning of time when I took my test (:)), I was almost failed because the stupid guy couldn't see the dash blinker every time I turned left. It was on, of course, but the light inside could not be seen from the passenger seat. I lost something like 12 points for that.

I also lost a few points for speeding in front of a school, couldn't seem to slow down enough...

I haven't parallel parked since I got my license. I hate it that much. I am honestly not 100% sure I can do it anymore... especially not in a minivan.

I am going to be your parallel-parking cheerleader. YOU CAN DO IT. I'm forced to do it all the time and I'm glad I can. I can also back things up...

Yes. If I want to go somewhere that would require it, I just won't go there or I will park super far away and just walk!

That's what I do. It doesn't help that the last time I even tried parallel parking I was in a car half the size of the one I drive now.

I appreciate the support, and I hate to let you down... but I'm really afraid I can't. I was never good at it to begin with. lol

i actually can parallel park better if I'm driving a stick shift - because that's the kind of car I really grew up driving.

Also, I hate parking on the street anyway. I'm always afraid some jackwagon speeding past will rip off my door or mow down one of my kids or something (even though I am super careful and only take them out on the street side when absolutely necessary). Just another reason I'm glad I don't live in a city. There are few places that require parallel parking here. :saint:

I know I can parallel park if I have to, but I hate doing it. Reversing, though, is quite fun. Kieran often asks me to park backwards, meaning he wants me to reverse into the space. Developed that skill when I drove a huge extended -length Aerostar. Reversing into a space was much easier than reversing out later.

I'm actually pretty good at parallel parking. Although its very rare to have to in my city.

Keep practicing, and you'll be fine! Just relax, and don't get super nervous.
