Catholics can be fanatical. I'm not sure how a belief can have opinions or outlooks of any degree.

I don't appreciate that non Catholics are being judgmental of Catholics.

What class was this?

Can Catholics be fanatical? Sure, but so can atheists, Muslims, Jews, etc. Is Catholicism fanatical? No. Someone in the position of a teacher should not be so rude and judgemental about the faiths of their students.

Most definitions of fanaticism include the words "irrational" , "extreme" , "excessive", "uncritical" so yes I would definetly say this teacher chose her words carefully to portray catholicism as a deviant practise.

I think his statement was stupid. But that doesn't make it 'anti-Catholic'. I don't like the ideological content of the republican party. That doesn't make me 'anti-republican.' Unless I'm 'anti' half my family.

As I said in my first post, someone in the position of a teacher should not be so rude and judgemental about the faiths of their students. Even with the edit, saying things like that is outside of what is acceptable.

What grade are you in? If this was in high school then his comment was completely inappropriate. If it was in college then I don't see anything wrong with it.

I am a senior in High school. It also was History class. I find that class very biased.

I can think of a few instances when that would be appropriate. If, for example, this was a Euro history class and he was talking about the Donation of Constantine then that seems fine. If he said that the idea of the Eucharist was fantasy then that is deeply inappropriate.

It would be helpful if you could describe more exactly what happened.

I think there would be a difference between "fantasy" and "fanaticism". If fantasy, as in delusional or make-believe, then that would seem improper. If fanaticism, as in frenzy, then it would not seem too improper, depending on context.
