Seraphim
I am trying to understand the terms, "co-Redemptrix, Mediatrix, Advocatrix." What does this mean?
Pio Nono
JMJ 5/5 - Fourth Wednesday of Easter Seraphim, 1.) Mediatrix - the Church has believed for a long time that Mary is the Mediatrix of All Grace; that is, all graces that God gives us come through the hands of Mary. This belief comes, in part, from the belief that God acted through Mary in order to give us His Son, the greatest of gifts. Likewise, He gives us His graces through Mary. 2.) Advocatrix - this means that all of our prayers first go through Mary to God. St. Louis de Montfort explains it best when he said that our prayers are, at best, imperfect; they go through Mary to be perfected, like one would boil dirty water to make it potable. 3.) Co-Redemptrix - this comes from the Latin words "cum Redemptor" meaning "with the Redeemer." The Church does not nor has she ever officially endorsed this position. I may be wrong on this, and if I am, I would like to be told so and pointed in the right direction; however, as of this writing, I know of no official stance on the issue. Hope this helps. Yours, Pio Nono
