the_rev
This won't help but may even throw out more confusion, but I know there are Poor Clare Colletines. One Pmer, Piccoli Fiori JMJ entered a community in Rockford. Sorry I couldn't be more help! EmilyAnn
I found this online. It's actually a pretty good resource on the different orders.
The Order of Saint Clare is an order of religious women founded by Saint Francis of Assisi and his loyal companion Saint Clare of Assisi. It can be said that Saint Clare complimented Saint Francis, but not in the way that most would expect. Where Saint Francis was a contemplative at heart, Saint Clare was a zealous missionary at heart. Ironically, Our Lord called the contemplative to the marketplace, and the missionary to the convent. (This should be no surprise, however. According to the Saints, to live in a convent, is to live in the very heart of the missionary life of the Church). Thus the Poor Clares today tend to be cloistered contemplatives. As a basis for understanding Poor Clare spirituality, it is necessary to first understand Franciscan spirituality, since both are closely related and mutually illuminating [see section on Franciscans below]).
I believe Poor Clares Colletine are a branch of the Poor Clares started by St Colette. I believe that they have their own constitutions, though they follow the Rule of St Clare. There is a community in the US, in Rockford. Feankie
Don't forget about the PCPA's Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration....Mother Angelica's order (well, there's not HER order, but the one she joined and has promoted)
Tally Marx
I looked into the Poor Clare's early in my discernment... But I never actually discerned (visited, wrote, etc) to them. There are many different Poor Clares, though to my knowledge they are all cloistered. These sent me an email once: http://www.monasteryminiaturehorses.com/
Pax_et bonum
I've been discerning with Poor Clares. I'm still trying to find the right community, but I'm pretty sure I'm called to them (God may surprise me yet, though). I have to run, but maybe we can chat later. Totally Franciscan
The Poor Clare Colletines in Los Altos, CA are terrific! They have approximately 20 nuns and a rather new section of the monastery built approximately 5 years ago, but don't hold me to that. They had an open house when the new addition was completed, which I attended. It was wonderful! The photos of the monastery on the last link will give you an idea of the monastery and the new wing. Be aware that the majority of the photos on the site are not that of Los Altos, but mostly from Roswell. http://poorclares.wordpress.com/ There is a little known OSC (Order of St. Clare) Poor Clare monastery in Aptos, CA. They built a new monastery and also had open house, which I attended. They have a beautifully simple monastery. Can't find the website at the moment, but a search will bring up some photos of it as well. Los Altos is located in the south bay area of Northern California, and Aptos is about an hour farther south of Los Altos near Santa Cruz.
