Trousseau Items - A Few Questions

OK so yesterday one of the parishioners asked me what it is that I needed the most in order to get to Spokane. I wanted to say well about $38,000 but I told him that I need prayers more than anything because I am still waiting to hear from some folks. Apart from that, it was just a matter of getting the rest of the stuff on my list. Most of the big items are taken care of, things that are seasonal are pretty much acquired but I am not working on getting a couple of books and stamps and the likes.

It was wonderful to have someone be so open to helping, he offered to buy my ticket if need be. I am still waiting to hear from the Serra club and I am thinking of following up with them. Please keep my intentions in your prayers.

Hopeful, I know you know this, but don't be afraid to ask for the money. He probably couldn't give $38,000, but maybe he could give a few hundred. I know you're working on this, but if you want to enter religious life, only by God's grace and your hard work can it happen!

I just got in contact with our local Serra Club; I don't need financial assistance, but I need all the prayers I can get! Hopefully they will be able to help you... and think of it this way, they joined an organization strictly with the goal of supporting vocations. The club might be able to assist, but you can also ask the individuals if they can provide an additional contribution.

HB, as hard as it may be be open with people about your needs. Like Lisa said maybe he can't give you $38,000 but he may be able to give you a couple hundred and every little bit helps. Or perhaps he might have ideas on where else to look for funding. But you have to make it known that you need the help.
I know how hard it is, I personally HATE asking others for money even if it is not for me but I have learned that it is pride and fear that is what is stopping me. Learn to let go of that pride and fear.

I'm working on the asking part. I know my issue comes from being private, fearful and proud. I'm trying to work on all of those things and what's hardest to let go of is the fear. I rationalize my fears sometimes by telling myself that I'm not being fearful, but just being careful... I know I can't fool God

Check out this blog...

Last year Deepa realized that God was calling her back to the Summit Dominicans and made the decision to start begging... and watch what God did with it....

Truly a profound witness:

Start with June 23 2011 and work your way forward..... God has been busy...

I was checking my stats yesterday, and saw people were coming by way of here. Please know that I pray for all women and men discerning their vocation, whichever vocation that may be.

Hopeful, if your $38K is from student loan debt, there are two organizations that have grants you can apply for - Fund for Vocations and Laboure Society. I received a grant from Fund for Vocations.

And, it was very hard for me to ask the first time, and, well, for that matter, every time after, if people could help the Lord bring me to Summit. There's so much humility and grace in actually asking. Interdependence. Being of one heart and one mind.

And, I love hearing the success stories, and I hope I'll have one to share as well. God always outdoes me in generosity. He Always Takes Care of Us. We have to cooperate in His plan.

I have been hovering on this thread for a little while now, and I have finally decided to post! I have been recently accepted to a community for entrance this august (Praise the Lord!) and am now trying to compile all of the things on the given list that I need to bring. I am thoroughly impressed by how good you all are at finding inexpensive and nun-quality items! There are a few things that I was hoping you can help me with.

The first (and maybe the most important!) thing I am looking for is a good alarm clock, traveling size. I have the hardest time waking up in the morning! I need something that is loud enough, not a "clock radio," with "no loud ticking." Do you all have any suggestions? Pretty much everything I have bought at this point has been from sears.com because they have had some good deals recently.

Second, I am looking for a good address book to keep track of my friends addresses. I just want a simple, plain cover, but with a fair number of pages. I understand that address books are typically a little bit more expensive, so I am planning on spending a little bit more money on this.

Third, I need "a black purse or bag for carrying the bible, liturgy of the hours etc... or a black backpack". I was thinking of maybe getting some type of sturdy black bag with a strap that crosses the body, for the sake of keeping my hands more free, but I am not sure where to find something like that. Any suggestions?

There are more things but I will post them later! Thanks so much!

God bless.

This is similar to what I have:
http://www.amazon.co...n/dp/B000NID4VG except it has the temp, and that's a bit weird.

More to come.

Actually, this is more like my convent clock.

For the address book, this one has 240 pages (so unless you know a lot of people) and is really reasonable. There's a variety of colors, just look at the related Moleskine items.

Purse- obviously a bit more expensive

Here's one that would be nice and roomy. It could possibly fit a bible and LOTH book. ($30)
http://www.6pm.com/product/7923687/color/3

http://www.ebags.com/product/travelon/anti-theft-hobo-bag/132638?productid=1343743&sourceid=googfeed&couponid=86786467&cawelaid=306344545 ($32)

A bit smaller (and cheaper), but would still fit prayer books and/or a smaller bible
http://www.target.com/p/BELGO-LUX-Black-crossbody-handbag/-/A-14017848?ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001&AFID=Froogle_df&LNM=%7C14017848&CPNG=luggage&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=14017848 ($16)

Wouldn't cross over the body, but cheaper shoulder bag

I love a good challenge!

Ah, another alarm clock. Simple and cheap
