FutureSister2009
Wikipedia isn't that reliable. I would go by Catholic Encyclopedia instead
let_go_let_God
In the US Immaculate Conception is a Holy Day of Obligation. Occasionally if it falls on a Saturday or a Monday it will be moved to the weekend but it is a HDO. God bless- LGLG
EmilyAnn
I tried looking at the USCCB and according to this it is a Holy Day of Obligation. TheresaThoma
Hmm I can't think of any off the top of my head. At my other university the first student Mass of the year almost seemed like a HDO because pretty much everyone went (the free ice cream afterwards didn't hurt either. Ted Drews.... yummy....) Though when I first converted I was pretty much going to Mass on a daily basis, So if it was a HDO I was already going anyways thus it wasn't a big deal to make sure I went to Mass. But then I would get confused because of the thing about if a HDO lands on a Monday or a Sat it wasn't a HDO for that year.
let_go_let_God
On a Saturday it's because they roll it into the Sunday obligation because in most parishes are already offering mass on that Saturday evening. Mondays are a bit trickier. As I've heard, in the United States, many priests have Mondays as their days off. So to respect their right and need for rest they bump it back to the Sunday. Byzantine
I really thought the Immaculate Conception was. What about Christmas? I've always been confused about whether or not it was
It is for Roman Catholics and I think even Ukrainian Catholics in the United States, but not for Byzantine Catholics. Totus Tuus
I never really thought they were, but it's surprising to me that Ash Wednesday and Good Friday aren't HDOs.
