elizabeth09
You say it. They want the children to buy their lunches because they are nutritious and good for the children.
BG45
Not all public schools are evil.
Agreed.
MissScripture
Well, if I remember correctly, what was lacking from the child's bag lunch was a vegetable. Rather than give him (her?) the veggie from the hot lunch (which is, I think, what they were supposed to do), they gave him the entire tray. And he ate the three nuggets. So, um yeah... he was actually eating the least nutritious item on the plate, I think.
Potato chips don't count? I'm pretty sure they count french fries as a veggie. At any rate, I really don't think most school lunch programs are in a place to be overriding a lunch like that on the grounds of "health."
Papist
How are chicken nuggets healthier than anything else?
They probably came with 32oz of ketchup, which counts for the child's vegetable requirement. No joke, ketchup is officially a vegetable in the schools. inunionwithrome
What is even worse, is if the child has food allergies and they try to force them to eat something wheat/milk/ or whatever related. Oy vey!
TheresaThoma
All I can say is they would have had a fit over my middle school packed lunch, It was yogurt and a granola bar with a drink. If we had some other items (fruit, carrots, other types of snacks) I would throw one of those in too. It most definitely wouldn't meet the standards yet I am still healthy, imagine that... i<3LSOP
I went to school and they served veggies, but they also happened to serve pizza, chicken nuggets, pancakes, mozzarella sticks etc. They asked if you wanted veggies and if you said you didn't want any veggies you wouldn't get them. Oh, and most kids instead of buying lunches with their money would buy the cookies and chips in the lunch line and they'd get away with no real food. I don't know why the these people are making such a biggie about this. They should visit my old school and see the junk they give the kids who buy their food at school. Papist
I think there is more to this story. For example, perhaps the teacher has a chip on her shoulder regarding the child's parents. Who knows, this could be some way for the teacher to act out towards the child's parents b/c she doesn't like something about them.
Selah
My high school lunch sucked. Ugh. Pizza, pizza soggy salad fixings. Lots of candy. No nutrition whatsoever.
Papist
I think that teacher needs to attend an anti-bulling workshop.

But I think that they are doing this so that way they can get the child hooked and get money.
