CatherineM
It is valid until consumed or properly put to rest. A host is easy to deal with, you just eat it. The blood is harder. We have to absorb it all with purificators that are washed in the sacrarium. That's a special sink in the sacristy that isn't connected to the sewer, but instead goes out into the ground in a version of burial. This is also how old baptismal water or sacred oils are disposed of. Even left over ashes from Ash Wednesday are often disposed of in this way. The real problem comes when the blood is spilled on carpeting. We flush the area out with pure water, soaking it up with purificators until no discernible blood is being soaked up. The purificators are also washed in the sacrarium until no discernible presence remains.
