Livin_the_MASS
i led prayer for our staff meeting today and i used Book 2 Chapter 3 on "The Peaceful Person" everyone liked it...i like it because it's really in your face especially for when there is conflict. and believe me there's always conflict when working with different personalities... anyways, i vote to pin this too!
Yeah I agree I guess this is why this happened?
On the Dignity of the Sacrament and on the Priestly Office Christ: "If you had the purity of an Angel and the holiness of St. John the Baptist, you would not be worthy to receive or to touch this holy Sacrament. No human being has merited to be able to consecrate and touch the Sacrament of Christ, or to receive the Bread of Angels as food. This is a tremendous mystery, and great is the dignity conferred on priests, which is not granted to the Angles. For only priests, validly ordained in the Church, have this power of offering Holy Mass and consecrating the Body of Christ. The priest stands in the place of Christ, using God's word according to His command and institution; but God Himself is the principal Author and unseen Worker in this Sacrament. To Him is subject all that He wills to be, and everything obeys His command. Therefore, you should believe Almighty God more concerning this most wonderful Sacrament than what your own senses or any visible sign indicates. With what fear and reverance are you to approach this holy work! Look to yourself, and consider the Source of this ministry that was delivered to you by the imposition of the Bishop's hands. Now you have been made a priest, consecrated to offer Mass. See to it that you offer this adorable Sacrifice to God with great reverence and devotion, and that the life you lead is blameless. You have not lightened your burden; but, on the contrary, you are bound by a stricter self-discipline and are obliged to strive for higher perfection. Your obligation requires you to be adorned with all virtues in order to give others the example of a good life. A priest's conversation must not be on the level of the crude ways of the world, but rather with the Angles in heaven, or with holy people of perfect life on earth. A priest clothed in his sacred vestments takes the place of Christ, offering humble prayer and supplication to God for himself and for all his people. Before him and behind him he wears the cross of our Lord, that he may always be mindful of the Passion of Christ. He bears the cross before him that he may earnestly behold the footsteps of Christ and strive fervently to follow them; he bears the cross behind him that he may humbly suffer for God whatever injuries are done to him by others. Again, he wears the cross before him that he may have sorrow for his own sins; and behind him that he may realize that he has been placed between God and humankind in order to mourn over the sins of others with compassion. He ought not to grow weary of prayer and offering the Holy Sacrifice until he merits to obtain grace and mercy. When a priest offers Mass, he honors God, gives joy to the Angels, builds up the Church, helps the living and obtains rest for the departed, making himself a sharer of all good things" Nihil Obstat: Daniel V. Flynn, J.C.D. Imprimatur: + Joseph T. O'keefe, D.D. Vicar General, Archbishop of New York
You quote the truth and people get bent out of shape. It happened in Jesus' day why would it stop now?
traichuoi
Yeah I agree I guess this is why this happened? You quote the truth and people get bent out of shape. It happened in Jesus' day why would it stop now?
well, there's been some conflict in the office...gossipping, etc. so i think when i used this as a reflection today it really put people in their place. when faced with truth you can either get mad and run away from the truth or get mad and run towards the truth. hopefully they got mad and now want to run towards truth... Livin_the_MASS
Sounds sweet... This part is TIGHT... "If you had the purity of an Angel and the holiness of St. John the Baptist, you would not be worthy to receive or to touch this holy Sacrament." Makes me think about how unworthy I am to receive Holy Communion. Also it makes me think about how should take Holy Communion on the tounge. (I am not trying to start a huge debate, but thats what it sounds like) I mean if we aren't even worthy of receving Christ why should we be able to hold him? Pax et Agape per Maria, Andy JMJ
And then you have a fellow brother or sister in Christ who makes a statement like this and all the flags go up. I actually missed what he said but now I know why the promises were made to get it moved. There was no debate here thywillbedone7 was telling the truth, does he or she not have a right to his opinion in the debate table? I'm wondering more and more on why this is moved? God Bless You thywillbedone7 for your witnesss
cmotherofpirl
Jason did you start a new thread on Imitation of Christ for me to pin?
Fiat_Voluntas_Tua
I made that statement to show what I thought of that part...here is what St. Thomas Aquinas had to say... "Out of reverence towards this sacrament [the Holy Eucharist], nothing touches it, but what is consecrated; hence the corporal and the chalice are consecrated, and likewise the priest's hands, for touching this sacrament." -St. Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274) (Summa Theologica, Pars III, Q. 82, Art. 3 I am not saying that if you receive Holy Communion by hand it is irreverent...I am just saying for me to have consecreted hands place Christ on my tounge for me to receive is what I prefer. It makes me realize that what I am receiving is not mere food, but much much more. I am not debating what is right, just stateing what that passage made me think of.
