The giving up hot showers idea sounds good. I believe that would truly be a sacrifice. I may even give up "caffine" GASP!!! That would truly be a sacrifice as much as I love my coffee and tea. Although I would have to have my herbal tea because the one tea serves a medicinal purpose for me. So, all caffine but that I think would suffice. :)

Soda and snacking

I think I'll give up snacking. It'll be a hard one because most of the food I eat in a day is in-between my meals.

I don't drink much soda...

Nope, I wouldn't think anyone on here was bragging 'bout giving stuff up for Lent.

I really, really, really, really want to give up Facebook for Lent. In fact, I've been wanting to delete my Facebook altogether because I spend so much time on it. The problem is that I am the leader of our Chi Rho Club (apologetics and Catholic culture) college group... So I need it to be able to stay in touch with everyone and keep them informed on upcoming meetings. :(

But, I am thinking of doing an old-style Lenten fast with my friend, who recently moved to Germany. A typical day in Lent would be one meal after sundown, and only small snacks during the day. I think it means no meat at all, too, and no animal products on Fridays (eggs, milk, etc). It will definitely be a huge struggle, but hopefully the suffering will draw us closer to Christ.

I'm not sure what I'm doing.
I'm thinking about giving up my favorite TV show only on once a week which I'm too attached to, I think, but besides that I don't watch TV much so my mom thought it wouldn't be much of a sacrifice.
But I was also thinking about really cutting down on my computer time...or something.

This year is going to be quite intense. I will limit myself to only one hour of television and one hour of video games a day, I will abstain completely from pop and sweets as is a tradition of mine, I will read an hour and a half of books about Saints or something else theological, read half an hour of the Bible everyday, do more school, be in bed by eleven at night if I can help it, sleep on the floor, pray an hour and a half a day or more if possible, exercise more, and eat less. This just about sums it up, though I've probably forgotten a few things.

sleep on the floor,
That's a really good idea! I had never thought of that.

Also, I just Googled "sleeping on the floor for Lent" and found this excellent article:

Ok, giving up hot showers would NOT be a sacrifice for me because I just turned off my hot water heater for awhile... it is so hot here that I am having cold showers anyway. :) I don't use hot water for much else except the dishes, so I figured I could save money by turning of the heater and just heating up water in a kettle as I need it!

But the caffeine thing - yes, that would be a sacrifice, but the last time I tried that I got bad headaches from caffeine withdrawal and I can't afford that right now because of work. :nono:

Cold showers remind me of on retreat in Queens. The water wasn't cold, it was ice cold. OHMIGOSH I almost screamed when the water hit me. :hehe:

I'm going to give up everything I can. Absolutely everything that I can possibly muster.

Let's see - TV? Don't watch much anyway... Games? Don't really play much anymore... Music? Don't listen anymore... Snacks? Well, I actually need snacks or I'll pass out. I'll work on that more when I'm done with school...

I think I'll have to try to give up vices this year. No complaining, no nail-biting, no beating wife... (j/k on that last one)

I do take long showers; I could probably live if I took shorter showers, and maybe made them cold showers. I guess that will be my lenten sacrifice this year.

Ditto for some of those things - can't give up what you don't do! Changing one's attitude is a good idea (getting rid of some vices).

And it's funny how some things are imposed upon one and then become habit. When I got back to Australia from the UK, they had been having a drought for many years, so everyone was asked not to water their lawns (lots of brown, dead grass everywhere) and to conserve water everywhere they could, including taking 3 minute showers! I stayed in a motel when I first got back and there were big signs posted about the showers! :) Now I am used to short showers, and because of the heat, they are cold anyway, so hardly a penance for me but for someone in a cold winter right now, this would be a big sacrifice!

Another one: I think I'm going to cut back on criticism. I have a tendency to say things like, "That's great, but I don't agree with this part." Instead, I'll just say, "That's great," and leave it at that.

Currently in the process of finishing up the cheesecake, cookies and ice cream we have in the house. It'd be fun, but then I remember why I'm doing all this snacking...

Blessed&Grateful

[sub]Fast on Friday, not a complete fast but just juice and a "light meal."[/sub]

No candy, cookies etc.

and for the do category, no cursing or talking negatively.

I may not survive.
