MissScripture
No clue yet...

i'm honestly not sure what i'm going to be doing.
I'm in the same boat. No idea, yet. Last year I didn't give anything up, since I was already miserable enough (I was living 6 hours from my husband for 4 months), but I added extra prayers every day.
No clue. Won't be food-related. I'm nursing, and I need my food.
I briefly though that John Paul might have an issue with my dairy intake, and decided if that were the case, my giving up dairy would be my lent sacrifice, too, because that is pretty much half of my diet, currently. I was so relieved when that was not the case!
i<3LSOP
I am not sure yet. But I am thinking giving up hot showers or no food after dinner or call one person everyday giving them a compliment.
Great minds think alike! I'm thinking of giving up hot showers too... I'm thinking of getting up and hour earlier, nothing in-between meals, and giving up phatmass for Lent... I might not do the getting up an hour earlier thing 'cause then I'd only get about 3-5 hours of sleep...
IcePrincessKRS
"Be careful not to parade your uprightness in public to attract attention; otherwise you will lose all reward from your Father in heaven." - Jesus Christ.
No worries. I'm about as bassakwards as they get. However, my feeble attempt might inspire someone else and I think that's ok.
IcePrincessKRS
I've been trying to think of things I can do for penance that will also not cause me to be continually cranky. IMO, the whole benefit of penance is defeated if you're constantly crabby. I know I know, "Just offer it up." Guess what, I'm not there yet. There are some things I could give up which I can definitely say will put me over the edge if I do them for 40 days.
You could do a different thing each week. That way if you have multiple ideas you can do all of them at one point or other. There have been years where I haven't given up a specific thing, or added a specific good thing, but just tried in general to be better about everything. Mostly that was because I was pregnant or nursing and my options were limited, but I think it's not a bad idea in general. I'm no theologian, but I think if it's important to you and you're offering it to God it works.

We can do a deed of penance. I like your idea of getting up early every day pray/meditate.

cmotherofpirl
Add holiness. Remove sin. This is how the orthodox do it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Lent I wish I had half their resolve. Lil Red
We already do meatless Fridays - perhaps we will add meatless Wednesdays as well.
EmilyAnn
Phatmass . . . no I joke. I couldn't give up Phatmass. I don't know what I'm going to give up. Probably not any kind of food. Maybe Skyrim but that might kill me.

Lil Red
I think I will give up surfing the web from my phone, I do it way too much anyway. I think I will also get up earlier and have quiet prayer/read time before kiddos get up.

Tony
I thought about caffeine again but, that means I'd go through bottled water quicker, but that would mean I'd go through bottled water faster, whom Im already sharing with 3 other people, and I wouldn't want to inconvenience them, so. I have no clue what Im doing
Tally Marx
This Lent, I'm giving up pride. My penance is to go to everyone I know, ask them what my faults are, and then actively work to fix...whatever they tell me to fix. It'll be a "Complain about the person above you" thread just for me! I don't know if I'll give up anything else yet.
