BarbTherese
[sub]I had always turned to Our Lady and reflected on her under one of her titles especially "Our Lady of Perpetual Help" to whom my Dad had great devotion. One of OurLady's titles is "Mother of The Church" http://www.ewtn.com/...oc/jp2bvm63.htm[/sub] [sub]This type of reflection changed for me when a priest, during the time I was striving to define my lay celibate vocation, said "Imitate Mary in Nazareth" and that set me thinking about the likely life of Our Lady from the birth of Jesus until His Death and then after. The theology of St. Therese, I felt, very much spoke to this as it does to the also humble, almost hidden, life of St Joseph. [/sub] [sub]The potential life of St Joseph is also a fascinating reflection. Jesus was fully human like us in all things and His parents were central figures in His formation from His Birth to His leaving home to begin His Public Ministry. St Teresa of Avila who began the re formed Carmel (Therese of Lisieux of course was a Carmelite nun of the Teresian reform) had great devotion to St. Joseph.[/sub] [sub] St Joseph is also Patron of The Church and Protector of Families and much needed advocate in these rather troubled times. CatherineM
I like St. Margaret of Scotland. She was a cultured woman who married a man with rough (or no) manners and had to civilize him. I also like St. Hulbert since my bassets are descended from St. Hulbert's hounds.
OnlySunshine
St. Anne -- she is my Confirmation saint and the Mother of Our Lady St. Elizabeth -- I love the mystery of the Visitation of Mary to Elizabeth; Elizabeth's reply to Mary's greeting brings tears to my eyes St. Elizabeth of Hungary -- her charity was so beautiful especially because she was royalty St. Therese of Lisieux -- for someone so young to be so committed to God is astonishing St. Rose of Lima -- she was dedicated to Jesus privately as a perpetual virgin - what an example! St. Paul -- his letters in Scripture move me beyond words St. John the Baptist -- he responded, willingly, to the ministry of baptizing sinners before Christ started his public ministry St. Joseph -- how could you not love the foster father of Jesus Christ? St. Luke -- he wrote my favorite synoptic Gospel which is the most Marian of the 4 Gospels Edited February 21, 2012 by MaterMisericordiae
