Tsornin
A fire truck went by just a minute ago, I prayed for them, but felt clumsy, and thought, surely there must be a Catholic tradition for this. Praise God, here it is! And I love the whole list, so helpful to converts who feel like they may never break fully into Catholic culture.
And I'm a cradle Catholic, and I haven't heard some of these! It's awesome! I actually started using holy cards as bookmarkers:book:--I bought some used books not too long ago, and I opened one, and out fell a scapular! It made me feel so good, and so connected, that I want to do that for someone else. And you never know ......

Quietfire
9. If you meet the pope, kiss his ring. You can also kiss the ring of your bishop or cardinal (it makes the liberal ones squirm, but hey, that's their problem--you're honoring Christ, not them). Optional: I've been known to kiss the sacred hands of priests.
In regards to Bishops... Is it the ring they wear on their offering hand? My Bishop always extends his hand for a handshake and today I had such an urge to kiss it, but wasnt sure how or what to do. He is wearing a ring on his right hand, but I dont know if that ring has any significance. Someone told me years ago that when a priest or nun takes their vows they wear a 'wedding ring' on their right hand to signify their relationship with Christ. Like a Child
Isn't there also some tradition of saying a certain prayer when you hear the Angelus bells? If so, what prayer should you say? And what is the Angelus, anyway? Still learning. . .
Noel's angel
Okay, the Angelus is said at 6am, noon and 6pm to put us in mind that God the Son became man for our salvation. It goes like this: V. The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary. R. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit. Hail Mary, etc. V. Behold the handmaid of the Lord. R. Be it done unto me according to thy word. Hail Mary, etc. V. And the Word was made Flesh. R. And dwelt among us. Hail Mary, etc. V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. LET US PRAY Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts, that we to whom the Incarnation of Christ Thy Son was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection. Through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen. May the divine assistance remain always with us and may the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen The Regina Caeli is a prayer that replaces the Angelus during the Easter season from Holy Saturday to the Saturday after Pentecost. It goes like this: Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia: For He whom you merited to bear, alleluia, Has risen, as he said, alleluia. Pray for us to God, alleluia. V. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia. R. Because the Lord is truely risen, alleluia. Let us pray. O God, Who by the Resurrection of Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, granted joy to the whole world: grant, we beg You, that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, His Mother, we may lay hold of the joys of eternal life. Through the same Christ our Lord. R. Amen

PadrePioOfPietrelcino
I have a wall opposite the foot of my bed that I placed a Crucifix, a picture of the Pope, my Archbishop, and my Patron Saint, so I say a Prayers every night for the Archbishop and Pope, ask my Saint to help me and thank Jesus, and again in the morning, wnd often in the day, whenever I see it. Romans1513
Wow I'd never heard of some of those either... I feel like such a bad Catholic! (lol j/k... sort of) I don't have a scapular... I remember last school year there was a Mass or something at one point at our Newman center, for scapulars. Would I need to do this, or could I just get one and start wearing it if I want to? Thanks! ~Katie
Noel's angel
If you buy a scapular you should get it blessed by a priest. You only need to get te first one blessed-if it breaks and you need a new one, it doesn't need to be blessed. You shouldn't throw away old scapulars-either burn or bury them.
