My Best Loved Hymn

"Satan is REAL" by the Louvin Brothers is perhaps the greatest song ever written. Loretta Lynn's "Portland, Oregon is of course a close second.

That is not a hymn.

You wouldn't say that if Jesus was a friend of yours.

Put a donk on it.
A bangin' donk.

But not a honky tonk badonkadonk.

Simple - even simplistic - but honest and heartfelt and true. Simple, honest, heartfelt, and true reaches some people.

And I have ALWAYS loved close harmony.

Close harmony is nice in secular music. Not really proper to sacred music. Of course, '70s folk pop hymns are about as far away from sacred music as you can get anyway...

"Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord” (Eph. 5:19)

Apparently from the earliest days of the Church, hymns were not limited to the interiors of church walls and to liturgical use only. They may not even have been in Latin! :woot:

Let's refrain from calling it a hymn. It isn't a hymn.
"A hymn is a type of song, usually religious, specifically written for the purpose of praise, adoration or prayer, and typically addressed to a deity or deities"

This is just a song. It's telling a story. It's not directed to God. It's just a poem about Satan set to music.

I didn't even bother listening to the song, so I wouldn't know.

Didn't miss anything other than Colonel Sanders's sons laying down some phat beats about the reality of the devil.
