I do not think that they are to reform. But only time will tell.

SGK did not end their support of PP due to abortion, they did it due their guidlines and bylaws that states they will not fund any Org. under federal investigation, which PP is now facing. Then they folded like a house of cards when facing the recriminations from the pro-death supporters.

I have never give my money to Susan Komen, because there was not a cure for cancer. Mayly, what I heard, is that they just sit around doing nothing anyway

Scott Stantis has a good one in today's Tribune:

So apparently the issue isn't black and white. And maybe I need to retract my retraction. Of course I may find myself retracting my retraction on the retraction. Anyone follow that???

Sounds like a draw by three-fold repetition.

But seriously, I think it's fine and good to just let this play out. They may reform in due time. In the meantime, they are fighting a PR battle. They aren't getting less funds on a short-term basis, so I thinkt he best way to support Komen is to make your voice heard that you favor SGK sending their funds...elsewhere.

A bit OT, but can I just say that the reaction out of Planned Parenthood is causing me to facepalm so hard that I'm almost going to end up with a broken nose? I'm stunned that people are actually falling for their rhetoric. If a pro-life organization ever acted that way, they would never see a dime of my money.

Don`t worry. What I heard that they stop giving to PlannetParenthood for 2 or 3 days, and then want back on their word. I really do not know what is up.

Is this for us or for those who think that abortion is right when we all know that its killing of a human life? Being Pro-Life, I have given it a great thought and you are, not only killing a human life, but killing off generations of human life.

The way I understood it, was this:
SKG stated they wouldn't grant funds to organizations under criminal investigation.
PP is under investigation, and therefore uneligible for grants.
However, this never meant their previous grants were discontinued, or that they wouldn't be eligible again in the future.
I think there was a big misunderstanding, on both sides, and everyone ran away with it.

That said, I never did get the SGK-PP relationship. Not just because of abortion, but because PP is the biggest contraceptive provider in US. Contraceptives are a class 1 known carcinogen. They cause breast cancer. SGK funding PP is like a lung cancer research organization giving money to Philip Morris USA. It's nonsensical no matter what side you're looking at it from.

I think a lot of us in the pro-life movement are getting a little bit carried away in our support for SGK's recent decision. Yes, it is nice that they will no longer be giving money to Planned Parenthood. But there are lots of issues that haven't been addressed as of yet.

SGK has been adamant from the word "go" that this is not a political move. Maybe they're being honest, and maybe they're full of it. The fact is that they have publicly said "this isn't about politics." In other words, we could interpret that as "don't get excited, we're not taking your side here." And they aren't. It's not like they are reallocating their resources to a crisis pregnancy center. Even if this is about politics, they're still taking (at best) a politically neutral position.

What they did base their decision on was their new standards for handing out grant money. They've also mentioned that Planned Parenthood could still be a partner again in the future.

The Planned Parenthood in Denver has been granted an exception--they are still getting SGK grants. I fear that SGK is leaving the entire pro-life movement duped, without even trying.

There is a lot about SGK that makes my skin crawl. I'm fine with fighting breast cancer (of course I am, duh) but I'm not okay with 6th graders wearing thick rubber braclets that say "feel your ta-tas" or "save second base." A lot of people will disagree with this, but I feel that they are using sex to sell their cause--that is why they focus on breast cancer. Sex should never be used as an instrument for selling anything.

I know we want to support SGK against the wave of trollish rebellion from Planned Parenthood. As it stands, their donations have increased by 100% over the last two days, so the extra cash will help them deal with all of the hate-mail and youtube-level combox trolling. I think they are doing just fine, thankyouverymuch.

Above all else, there are dozens of other charities that really and obviously deserve our help--especially when looking at it from a Catholic point of view. CRS and Catholic Charities are the obvious ones. If you specifically want to help cancer victims, there are a few of those as well. I might as well give our friend PhatCatholic a cheap plug while I'm at it right here: http://phatcatholic....n-g-komen.html.
My view is that Catholics would be well advised to avoid giving their hard-earned dollars to SGK, despite the positive recent news. I'm very happy that they are severing ties, but they either are still very razzle dazzle with Planned Parenthood, or are lying through their teeth. Neither is acceptable. Furthermore, there is definitely a non-zero chance that they will once again give to Planned Parenthood in the future. It's not a good idea to take that chance. $363.2 million per year in tax dollars is enough.

Peas and carrots, yo.

You missed the most important point... the majority of their money doesn't go to "finding a cure."
