Okay, the politics of climate change. Doesn't address the science. Also, that can go the other way. The (industry funded) think tanks that originate the majority of anti-climate science talking points have a vested interest in generating fear, uncertainty, and doubt on the matter. Naomi Oreskes' Merchants of Doubt documents this phenomenon quite well. Anyway, I think this illustrates precisely why it is best to make the distinctions. "Politics advances by debate and everyone's opinion matters. Science advances by evidence and nobody's opinion matters." ETA: But anyway, insinuating that the liberal response (whatever that is exactly) is based on greed and anti-freedom ideology doesn't invalidate the science and doesn't really address the projected impacts of climate change.
Exactly, which is why the goals of the political left and right ultimately aren't much different. It's about money.

Actually, this might be a new record for logical fallicies in one sentence at phatmass.
Alright, let's see the logical fallacies. I may be wrong, although I'm not, but an incorrect assertion is different from a logical fallacy.

That's certainly true for the corporations who have duped you.

Wow...did this post go every which way. :| I was focusing on the day of fasting aspect. Whatever is happening with the weather (Global warming vs earth cycle ) will affect crops & cost of food here as well as everywhere else.
no, nothing 'wrong' with it, but considering all that's happening with the HHS & Obama's administration, I would think it prudent of them to fast for something slightly more pressing...
Personally, I will be adding the whole HHS issue to the food insecurity/climate changes issue. :)

Perhaps the liberal response that global warming is a problem from which there is a lot of money to be made while restricting freedom.
I have actually wondered if this is what is really happening. What I find weird is that Al Gore still drives an SUV. If he is so worried about a carbon foot print & what-not, how can he do that in good conscience? :idontknow:

Al Gore is not a climate scientist. He's a politician who has decided to resurrect his failed/arguably stolen political career by becoming (again) an environmental activist. The case for man made/exacerbated global warming does not rest on Al Gore's movie.

Right. This makes your second evasion. You're getting boring.

Because it would be a waste of my time to actually go through and list all of the ways you have erred. At best, like the fundamentalists that used to be around here, you'd ignore it and find a different line of attack. Your wierd fixation on me is what is really truly boring. LD at least did not make assumptions and had a rational response, and not surprisingly, we agreed.

Of course
At best, like the fundamentalists that used to be around here, you'd ignore it and find a different line of attack.
I think I reverse myself and openly admit that I have been proven wrong more than many people here.
Your wierd fixation on me is what is really truly boring.
Hm. A little narcissistic, aren't we? I don't have a fixation on you. Unless I'm directly responding to one of your posts I'm only very vaguely aware that you're a member here. You're not like Socrates, Winchester, or Aloysius et cetera whose opinions I disagree with but respect. You don't, as far as I see, make particularly thoughtful arguments. Most that I see are what you presented here initially, glib and annoyingly cliched. So I don't usually pay attention to your posts. The times that I do I generally find them annoying. Like here. That you've contrived a fixation out of my actual opinion of you, probably a nice, intelligent guy who annoyingly seems to express his thoughts in cliches and paraphrases of the typical rhetoric, is somewhat strange.
LD at least did not make assumptions and had a rational response, and not surprisingly, we agreed.
I think LD was far more polite, and thoughtful, than me in his response to your silly post, but I wouldn't call it an agreement.

i'm kind of scrupulous when it comes to fasting...

what exactly are we supposed to do again? eat two small meals and one large meal? But I find myself eating once a day because i don't have time for any other meals... I think I fast everyday! hahaha
That's ok. I'll take up your slack.

That's razzle dazzle. Here's kind of what I'm thinking about it: Maybe HHS stuff is happening too. This is a one day fast and perhaps this has been planned for a while. And I'm sure there are lots of different prayer intentions on different days. Nothing but HHS can be prayed for all of a sudden? Why is this particular intention being made fun of? Because caring about food insecurity and climate issues is "liberal?" I actually don't think that is true btw. http://catholicclima...tican-messages/

But if they were saying to fast for popular issues like an end to abortion, or something else other than the threats to people in the third world, I doubt people would even notice, much less balk and trivialize the intention.

ETA: Also, what happened to all the piety about obedience and deference to the bishops around here? lol.
If I could give this a hundred props, I would.

I too, wish we would all take these concerns seriously. This is not a liberal issue.

Even Pope Benny is concerned with the environment!

*sigh*

...the same thing happens when it comes to the subject of illegal immigrants and immigration... toss the Bishop's opinions to the side because these subjects are too "liberal"

i hate that the church has two sides: the left and the right... Catholics are supposed to be neither left nor right, but balanced in the middle...
