Lisa
Like after reading this article: http://www.msnbc.msn...th-health_care/ There are so many things wrong with this.
A former Massachusetts dentist has been sent to jail for a year for using paper clips instead of stainless steel posts in root canals.
Paper clips? For real? Strictlyinkblot
Ow!!! And here I was thinking my fear of dentists was unreasonable. Seriously though, why did the dentist do that? Are stainless steel posts rare these days?
EmilyAnn
I'm now terrified to go to the dentist . . . but I'm so obsessive about teeth hygiene that I'll be fine anyway. But seriously, paper clips?
dUSt
My dentist used a toothpick on my root canal. The bad part is, it was the toothpick he used after eating some BBQ ribs. It's holding up pretty well though, as he gave me specific instructions to only eat liquid.

PhuturePriest
I had a root canal. Talk about the most painful thing you can possibly endure. If I was a woman I would choose childbirth over a root canal. And let the hatemail begin... Edited January 31, 2012 by FuturePriest387
homeschoolmom
The guy probably uses aluminium foil to fill cavities, too.
thessalonian
Ouch. HSM, have you ever touched your real fillings with foil. It creates an electric current with the fillings and is extremely annoying, i.e. painful.

My mother's dentist uses a high(ish) voltage shock (at a very very low current) to check if the nerve is still alive before doing a root canal to determine how much anesthetic to use. Bugger hurts like all get out, or so my mom says. Edited February 1, 2012 by arfink

I did one without any pain meds. I can think of hundreds of things more painful. And childbirth is assuredly one of them (although I wouldn't know, i'm a dude).
I have been through many painful things: Getting my head nearly crushed by a large metal poll that was attached to an electric poll, getting hit by a car, stepping on the side of a fishing reel and having it go through my foot, and I can't count how many times I've been thrown across the room and thrown onto the ground during Karate class, not to mention blunders when you make a mistake in sparring and do something extremely painful like clash shins with each other, or even get your hand smacked by escrima sticks, but root canals take the cake.
