If you don't have the wordperfect converter installed you will get the garbage.

It came with my Office 2003. So, if you have the CD, you can install it.

Suggest to Sister that she not only save the WordPerfect document, that she also copy/paste/save into Notepad. The Notepad file will be her backup b/c Notepad will be on all PCs. I can write a simple How-To for the Sister. Let me know.
