i<3LSOP
It was a friend of hers that she got the idea from. The above picture is not the one she made. I got it on the internet just for an example. My wife picked a better fabric that this example. There are sites with instructions on how to do this. The problem is that most are instructions to make a mini-skirts b/c these days a skirt is de facto mini-skirt.
I know! I can not stand mini skirts! They are so immodest and that is what girls/ladies consider to be skirts nowadays.

You go into Walmart and Target and see little mini-skirts for toddlers and preschoolers. No wonder little girls become tarts.

Guest hermanita
I usually wear skirts and dresses. When I wear "trousers" they are accompanied by a tunic-like top. Muslim modesty sites have some lovely things but they are pricey . Also in the winter, ski underwear, tights and/or leggings keep me warm.
MarysLittleFlower
I agree that it's so difficult to find modest skirts. I've found some but you really have to look around, maybe in second hand stores. Sewing is very useful!

I never go sleeveless. When I was in college the nuns instilled in us that sleeveless was immodest and that we should always cover our shoulders and I have never abandoned this, though it certainly is no longer cultural. These same nuns said the same about jeans/pantaloons or 'trousers'. I started to wear same in my mid twenties.

BarbTherese
I have a black, a brown and a moroon long and three quarter length skirts for "best". Blouses to tone in. Also a good pair of black slacks or pantaloons, trousers. We call them slacks in Australia. I recently purchased in a Red Cross Second Hand clothing shop a brand new "Maggie" brand linen shirt/tunic in a lovely muted pink. It cost me $9. When I checked out the cost on the net, since mine was new, the price tag was $196!!!!!.

Once I found them, I grabbed one in each color-- tan, brown, cranberry and dark green. I love them. Sooooo comfy, and warm. My denim skirts do, too. I hardly ever wear my skirts that don't have pockets. I love pockets.

TheresaThoma
So as far as the pocket issue, I have decided that I am just going to make a couple of my own skirts. (Yay for being able to sew!) And for Hockety Pockety http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bd5YUEOwlE
