Maximilianus
And just a gathering for self-congradulatory people getting together over a boutique issue. This friar seems to think so. Brother Adam
Yes, absolutely. All of the rosaries, divine mercy chaplets, people who became pro-life because of the March, Masses, spiritual offerings, women who changed their mind about getting an abortion, closed aborturaries, and sacrifices were a total waste of time. dominicansoul
my dad was just saying this to me as i walked out the door to our diocesan pro-life day yesterday..."you know, marching is not going to end abortion..." but he doesn't realize that we're actually praying while we march and not just yelling like rowdy kids at a rock concert... but my dad also added, "If Catholics would just be Catholics, we wouldn't have so many problems..." this is sooooooooooooooooooooooo true!!! back in the 60's we had bishops and priests who taught catholics to completely ignore Humanae Vitae... thousands of catholics grew up with a contraceptive mentality... the contraceptive mentality has broken apart families, led to divorces, abuses, marital problems, immorality, irresponsibility...which has led us to loose respect for the dignity of humanity, the dignity of human life....led us to the murder of the unborn and a complete disregard for morals... ....its been decades since i've heard priests preach against fornication... you think if men and women heard the message that screwing around before marriage was a deadly mortal sin, kicks God out of your soul, breaks your relationship with God and punishable by hellfire, they would be doing it??? there is absolutely no fear of God any more.... its not just the pagans and the non-Catholics visiting planned parenthood... not to mention more than 51 percent of all Catholics in this nation voted for a pro-abortion president and will most likely vote for him again, because our religious leaders are too frightened to mention that its a sin to vote for pro-abortion candidates for fear of the government taxing them.... We are called to be courageous... and more than ever we are called to evangelize....not people outside the Church, but evangelize Catholics... we are living in this moment in our history where we need to stand for everything we believe in because all of it is being challenged... I do not agree that pro-life marches are a waste of time...but we have a great deal more to do than marches to end abortion in our country.... yesterday i went to pray in front of planned parenthood and march in the state's pro-life rally. We had a diocesan pro-life Mass. ...all of it seems like one step forward and two steps back, when you see cars in the church parking lot with "obama 2012" stickers on them.... Ash Wednesday
I liked the part where he was complaining about the lack of racial and ethnic diversity. To all my fellow whiteys out there, you are not allowed to care about anything or do anything. Just stay home, play video games, surf the internet, and most of all, rejoice in your radiant whiteness. MissScripture
He sounds like the religion dept where I went to high school. They almost didn't let one of my friends start a pro-life club called "Little Feet" because it was focusing on abortion and not the other pro-life issues. My question is, if people can't respect life at it's earliest, most innocent stage, who is going to respect it later on?
Totus Tuus
The March for Life is not a waste of time but it's also not going to end abortion. We need to be doing EVERYTHING we can, not just showing up for a gathering once a year in January. That means voting for Pro-Life legislation as often as we can, volunteering at pregnancy centers, praying at abortion mills, and PRAYING in general. And much more. I think the March is a good thing, but I am not a supporter of people who treat it like their once a year pro-life commitment.
dUSt
The priest at my grandma's church talked about abortion in his homily, and I think he made an excellent point... Even though he wishes Roe vs Wade would be overturned, he pointed out it would not end abortion. It would simply put the decision back to the state level, where women would still be able to cross state lines to get abortions if they wanted. He said the only way to stop abortion is by changing one person at a time. And that is OUR job. Each of us must have the courage to defend life everywhere we go--at our jobs, our schools, within our families, etc. It is up to US to change hearts--not the government. Maggyie
I think the March is a good thing and I think it is wonderful there is so much prayer involved, but at the same time it can kind of be seen as a Right Wing Jesus People March. I think legalized abortion will only end when it is seen as a secular civil rights issue, not just as a "religious beliefs" issue. So I am conflicted, like in the video there are images of the crucifix and Our Lady of Guadalupe and while I know at a deeper level that is great and good, I almost wish there was less of that. Ash Wednesday
I think without marches and activism, people would stop caring and thinking about it. Yes, poverty and war are important issues, but generally it doesn't take a genius to know that unjust wars and poverty are bad. In my experience, not as many people are clearly able to see abortion as a real moral dilemma.

John Paul II, Pope, holding babies make it a "Catholics only" issue, whereas graphic photos, as disturbing as it may be to some, force the public to see that this is not just a "Catholic issue" but rather the holocaust that it is.
